Quality versus privacy re:World Titles and KSUSA Titles

Puerto Rico would be great but we're too far along for it to be a reality.

Since this is going to be a World Contest I believe we need to have exclusive rights to any break we may be using for the competition. If this means having to hold the contest at a fickle beach break, I say great, it's better than having to "share" a mushy point break that is more suited to longboarding than kneeboarding.

Puerto Rico was a consideration at one point, however the lack of infrastructure as far as kneeboarding became an issue. Basically, there are not that many kneeboarders there. At the moment, Puerto Rico is at a stage where we are looking at Junior Development as the main objective.

Also, the fact that the kneeboarders that are there do not have the experience of putting on a major surf event, I would have volunteered my experience with attending comps, but I am on the other end of the world.

Basically, its still in the cards, we just dont know when.

Albert, I believe PR to be one of the most fertile grounds for young kneelos. With all the spongers and a large young surf population kneeriding could be a progression step with the right "marketing". A contest or exhibition at a popular break could move that along. I was well treated as a kneeboarder on my March trip to the island and fielded a lot of questions on equipment and kneeboarding.

How about a Gathering next winter? I would be glad to host one on my rock but I just don't have the variety and quality of breaks that PR offers. Again, will be willing to offer my support including bringing in an event photographer and potential sponsors.

I KNOW A SURF SHOP OWNER IN PR THAT WANTS TO MAKE A SPECIAL EVENT FOR KNEEBOARDERS.

Hmmmm??, not Knormal!

PR is alive with spongers. Maybe he is thinking along my lines that it could be a transition step for these guys. Spongers are also more accepted in PR and regularly hang and surf with stand-ups. I noticed more of a level of acceptance this year at some very aggro surf spots just on surfing ability other than what I was riding. Very different and independent attitude towards surfing there that takes me back to late 60's when kneeboarding was flourishing.
