I'm voting that we handicap Jon while surfing The Lane...make him ride a plywood paipo or surf mat...but that probably wouldn't work either!

If Jon is "forced" to make and ride a paipo out of wood, or anything else out of wood for that matter, we're in for a world of trouble...

I spoke to our fellow Kneelo, Dave Noel, today. Dave is a daily regular at the Lane and has surfed there for over 30 years. He is going to orgainze a water patrol of Lane locals who will insure that the water stays clear for the participants in the event. He is also going to talk the contest up among the locals so that they will not be surprised by the event and will support it. He says that he has already been talking with guys in the water and every one is cool about the idea.

Hopefully, this will eliminate any problems with non-contestants in the water and satisfy the naysayers who don't want to have the World's in Santa Cruz.

I have a question for Tom and the SC locals (not SoCal of course..) because I've never surfed there or seen an event there. Since there's several "spots" one can surf at the Lane (the point, middle peak, the slot, indicator) and just 6 person heats do you see us having the entire area available or just one or two of the spots depending on size/tide...
Or maybe the ? is "What is the most likely lineup to surf during the contest??"
Thanks!

We have a permit for the entire Lane. We intend to float buoys in the area we will surf and water patrol will clear that area. The area we select will offer the best waves, judging conditions, etc., etc We also intend to make certain that is room for the local guys to surf as well.

I've never been in a contest but interested in possibly going up to Steamer's to enjoy the fun and festivites, and what the hell......enter. Sounds like a whole bunch of fun. Someone did mention a good left!

Is there anyone in the HB/Newpt area interested in going and splitting the costs of gas, room and board, etc.?????

I don't mind doing the driving if need be. No Problemo.
