Tomorrow morning...
Tomorrow morning.
I'm cracking it at Moss Landing or the Dunes.
If no waves, then I'm heading North...knowing that it's High Tide in the morning.
Give me call on what's breaking up North.
If NO waves "Paula's", for breakfast...Then SURF....

Before the contest gets going, I want to tell about a conversion and send out some thanks.
First, a huge thankyou to the following ksusa regulars for helping to make our gathering special: JON MANSS for all the guidance and NORA for the group dinner -- JAMIE chasinglefts for the positive vibe and being a bridge between everybody -- DAN YOUNG surfhorn for the housewarming gift of 3 doz. red delicious -- STEVE NEAL SKneelo for working like a dog to clean up after these single guys -- JOEL MAYER photogjoel yo yo yo for standing thru endless cold sessions to get thousands of shots and still being generous with his talent -- MARK MILLER markgnome for his soul and his inspiring surfing on all vehicles -- MIKE SEARS for turning us on to his special spot and his blue spoon -- GEOFF LEVINS Dr S for all the stoke, supportive words and friendship -- TRAVIS BAGGETT am_glass who sacrificed a day to come down and almost got us out at John St. -- FRANK frankfqr for fixing Luke's board and bringing over the channel flex -- ROSS DILLON and Katrina for the spaghetti dinner and being such great reps for their country and Flashpoint -- TONY PLUNKETT Scoop & mates Kenny, Davo, Mark, Marc and Baden for blessing our place with their presence -- ERIC Caveman for gladly sharing his local knowledge, and to his wife Karri for the video, and to both of them for sharing the Sandbox -- BRAD COLEMAN southpeakbrad, a great example in and out of the water, for his Christian love and salsa brava! -- KIM GREEN Kage for taking the time to stop by (wish we could've seen the paipo) -- last but not least, SCOTT WESSLING my great brother who shreds equally with a board or a camera.
You guys are unforgettable. Thanks!
Now listen to this tale of hope: my standup son's leash breaks at Rockview, his nice 6'3" Hobie egg washes in and breaks a fin. Bummer. Uncle Scott lends him a 6'1" kneeboard to footsurf. He goes out without fins and takes a couple of waves on his knees for fun, gets a barrel, cutback, reo -- feels so "in" the wave and is having a blast. Comes in and starts raving about kbing... most fun he's had in years. He is STOKED. He even falls asleep talking about it. Goes out the next day, more knees, more fun. SKneelo, in a move of utter generosity, offers to give him a board from his quiver identical to the one he's been using. The gathering ends and Luke leaves his standup in CA and dreams of getting his new board. Happy Ending -- thank you, Steve!

Damo, you're not alone. Other mates who came this close to coming were PaulN and WillP. HalfmanRips Garrett also made the long trip in and we just kept missing each other, east side / west side -- too bad but he got some waves. Sorry, Mike.
I forgot to mention, Steve Neal was on a roll last week. He was on the cliff talking to Lloyd, a standup friend of Caveman, and got him so stoked he borrowed a board from Jon Manss and went out at Sewer Peak on a kb for the first time in 15 yrs. He got his share of left barrels, was hooting and pumping his fist in the air. Now I believe he's entering the contest!

I've known 'little' Lloyd since he was a scrawny little junior high kneeboarder. He and then-KBer James Anotonelli (now "The Mayor" of 26th Ave. and one of the best stand-up, big wave riders I've ever seen) used to charge as KBers. We had great times hanging at Suicides and 26.
If Lloyd does enter the contest, my money is on him.

Jimbo - They call Rockview now but, yes, that is Suicides. We used to surf (and body surf) it on mats, paipos & KBs prior to standup surfers...just like most of that stretch of coastline.
Bottom reef has changed over the years. Used to have a heavy, board-and-head-busting bowl.
The Suicides name came because it broke striaght in front of rocks and the nasty bottom. This was in the days before leashes so if you lost a board there was a good chance you really lost your board. Standup guys (typcial boards we're in the 10' + range) couldn't risk it.
It became the KBer hang out for many years before shortboard standups started really surfing the area. Jon & Dale Manss have a ton of stories of those infamous 'daze'..........
