The Surfers Journal Vol. 16 #1. Panhanling; Alaska By Bike. I'm all up in that. Hope this isn't to self promoting; thats not my intention! I'm just so stoked I've got to share this with others.

Paul Ferraris and his group (most notably, Terry M.) were a group of fun loving amimals! I 've seen some of the photos that didn't make the journal...damn. Luckly for me the only gun I've had to use lately has four fins on it.
The thing about the gun is how versatile it is. And with out getting all "Guns and Amo" on you guys. For Black tail is mostly when I get to take it out of the holster (it's so big that I use a cordless drill tool holster). the times I've been with in 20' of a browny, it was all about body posture (just like freediving and running into a big gray thing). The gun is always a hindsight or after thought.

You're correct about body posture. I've spent a lot of time in the backcountry and have run up against bear and a few lion. I've never had to drop the hammer on anything I didn't plan to hunt.
What make/model handgun do you have (I haven't seen the article). My wife's aunt moved to Alaska in the mid 1950's where her husband flew for the state police. They had a place on Clark Lake and everyone would have to pack.
Hey Coldsalt, well the brown bear problem here in New Zealand isn't to bad.... but I'm wonderin' what the correct body language is when facing a large bear.... I'd guess you try not to look like dinner but is a full foward posture too aggressive, and from 20' aren't you inside it's fight/flight line....
