Divine intervention
Aloha Mike,
Not that long ago, you posted about some guy wearing a tubesuit and booties..like, you've just gotta drop-in. Remember?
I always wear booties and soon I'll be in a tubie..well, it is Sydney.
I hope that someone's looking after my unworthy ass too..and makes sure that you're NOT on the bloody outside!
Your post was hot..and imagination IS everything.
Regards, as always from OZ.

Tube suit
Aloha Mike,
Your command of the Aussie vernacular is very impressive..like you actually know what a Seppo is! Too good.
A tubie is a springy with no arms..I hate rubber over my shoulders, so tubesuits help with paddle freedom and stuff and are good for a Sydney Autumn (Fall). And booties always helped with sea ulcers on the tops of your feet..same as what your flippers would do.
And I'm glad you've got the forehand/backhand thing happening. When Farrer's new vid is released, we will all have more footage to watch and to consider our techniques. Simon is such a natural talent, so much to learn.
Small waves at home last weekend..but nothin' this week.
See ya later, mate.

Perhaps to clarify the farming reference, the "long john" came first, which is a no arms, long legs wetsuit, somewhat akin to denim long johns worn by Farmer John and his ilk. Hence the short leg version was called "short john".Here in the USA, 'tubies' have always been called 'short johns'. Its a farming reference

My last "Long John" was back in about 1969 - 1970. A BodyGlove. I used to have to put talcum powder down the legs to get the thing on. Neoprene was stiffer and much harder to pull on back then...people would wear the old style "beaver" jackets over them in the winters, usually with the flaps hanging down. I think only SCUBA divers snapped up the flaps.
Long John's are also a one piece fullbody thermal underwear that have a flap over the arse you button up or down, as needed. You see cowboys and gold panners in movies running around in them - when something woke them up and they need their guns in a hurry....
Farmers wore them, too.
I think this was the actual inspiration behind the fullsuit.

Fun little swell this weekend in SD. A bit inconsistent but clean and fun, bigger today (Sun). Nice to see the OC kneelos keep coming down: Sat Ed Dimmick and today T.Backer, Wayne Kopit, their bud John, and Tom Linn as I was leaving.
To Wayne, SORRY I stuffed you on that set. I was so focused on Backer who was waaay back I wasn't aware of you till too late. Maybe some Small consolation is that I was witness to your great barrel!!
I've never been to Indo or Fiji but I asked Wayne if he had, which he has on several occasions. I said "Wayne, does it ever get like *that* down there?" referring to a couple of sets we saw rolling through at SouthPeak. He said "Yeah!" confirming what I had hoped he would say, and always wondered about. Ahhh, winter in SD; maybe the next best thing

blacks
Hey brad that was a fun day down there surfing with you guys, I think your right, blacks can be as good as anywhere. I saw sooo many people getting in the barrel and throwing spray I thought I was watching an excellent surf video. I saw one standup get a set wave that looked liked Indo, If I wasnt wearing a 4/3 fullsuit I would swear it was. The way the wave was illuminated and hollow.... just great.
Thanks for sharing the waves
