Strong clean lines, long lulls, saw lots of talented takers getting cleaned!!!!! Few gems if you were lucky, but northern points don't like south swells, had to draw the high line or forget it.....the highlite was meeting fellow kneeboarder sporting a virgin Lis quad...clean lines!!!!!Channeled flex tapped new speed possibilities, handeled things as well as any........

Our local TV news carried some quick clips of The Wedge last night - a few body boarders then one standup pulling in deep.

Jalama was graced with some good waves and several "famous and infamous" kneeriders. Freddy, Barry, Matt, Lenard, Hosey and Bob were enjoying the campground and well overhead Tarantulas. I think it was one of the few spots around here that wasn't overcast and foggy and NO WIND, a rare treat

Yeah Boys Mike is correct the boys were on it! Wind offshore in AM and calm the rest of the day. We also had a new Grom with us Razor's son
Zach, his new name is Zach ATTACK. He took it on and got some clean tubes at the piont and cracks. Barry was schooling him and Zach charged
/attacked it.

Sam - it's a county beach campground near Lompoc. You are in San Luis right? Probably about an hour and fifteen from you. It cranks.

The status of OB is not so good. I spent the afternoon using sponges to pick up oil globs off the beach. As low tide proceeded a flotsam line of oil globs, penny to silver dollar size was depositing on the beach. A series of lines 12 to 18 inches thick with varying densities was covering the beach. Globs of oil were clearly visible in the surf zone. I don't know how long it will be before its breaks up completely but I bet its over a week or two.

The stuff is totally nasty, like light tar with a strong fuel smell. After a few hours the smell would get to you and your throat would start hurting. Didn't see any oiled birds but surfing is out of the question. You would get oil all over you and your board.

I hope this new swell will break it up more but I have this feeling that more oil will just keep getting sucked out of the bay by the tides and keep coming ashore at OB

At Bolinas the globs are smaller, size of a pencil eraser to size of a quarter. Reports have it as far north as Tomales Bay.
A kitty litter scoop works good for picking it up. Orange oil solvent works good for getting off your skin and non porous objects. We will likely be dealing with this stuff for a while. :(

Pretty much a fiasco for several days. They ran a boom across the lagoon,Didn't work.. The equipment necessary to do the job never showed,Incompetence with flashes of stupidy. This happened big time about 72,and again in the early 80's.Think they'd be ready???
About 30 oiled birds picked off stinson/beaches.The number of dead birds won't be known for awhile
Did a seabird survey, rocky point to duxburry reef [about 3 miles]out to about 3 miles, while the light was good.About three k. birds[several species] The slicks are intermittent and not solid, which helps.Next few days should see a rise in mortality/oiling.
Muir beach got hit pretty heavy.Local and a crew from the zen center[trained in hazmat]proceeded to clean the beach from morning till almost dark. The officials showed up late afternoon and told them to leave..It was explained that they were traine personnel. After a few words they had the local cuffed, face down on an oily beach, for an hr,waiting for backup...
Sh_ts going to hit the fan.The reefs are closed to the public.

Another weekend of decent surf here in OC, MD. About five foot on Sunday, choppy and weak at 8th street, but I got a a shop owner to take some pics of me from his shop on 8th street.
Monday, head high peaks at my spot 48th st. Got one tube that had to be at least 5-6 seconds, just kept peeling in front of me, worth the overnight hotel bill on that ride alone
