I'm happy to surf perfect empty waves, travel paid by the sponsor, make big bucks and score hot chicks (if I wasn't married) if all I have to do is rip on a mass produced board. This is no different than sailboat races, NASCAR and many other sports where uniform equipment is the norm. You guys can be all cool and stay home. I'll go and have a great time.

Seems to have drifted a bit from what was originally asked (if I read it correctly, what sort of board, if I didn't read it correctly then just put this down to bored ramblings). If somenone wants to pay me to ride primo waves then as far as I'm concerned Bring it On! I would much rather ride a bright pink and flouro green soft foam 5ft , 3 inch thick 7 fin multi flyer swallow (and get paid for it) than spend that week at my normal 9 - 5. And after the contest is finished win loose or draw, then I can happily go back to being me, warm in the knowledge that somebody actually paid me to have fun.
I live in my own little world, But it's OK they know me there.
surf research quote. I have a full page add somewhere in tracks for "The Slab"[img]1979
Simon Anderson and kneeboarder Peter Crawford introduce molded plastic boards...
New Look Plastic Surfboards
Despite the failure of earlier mass-produced surfboards; two new models recently appeared on the Australian market. Both are made by the same process, but they are produced and marketed by different companies.
"The Slab," a kneeboard designed by Peter Crawford, is made by the Windsurfer company, while a Simon Anderson-designed board is sold under the Power label.
The boards are made of. a rigid plastic exterior filled with low-density foam.
Performance reports have been good for both models.
Peter Crawford was seen ripping Dee Why Point on a prototype slab, and several Narrabeen locals put the Power model through its paces.
The boards are selling at aroundd $130 (Australian), $60 cheaper than most custom boards -something of a bargain, since they appear to be relatively indestructible.
The extent to which surfers are willing to sacrifice their individuality to simple economics, however, has yet to be determined.

what could be fairer to ride for your imaginary contest?
I used to own one...(I think bruce has it?)
Damn thing smacked me fair between the eye's
A huge egg shaped lump on my forehead and two black eye's to match.
Damn it hurt.....
The board was rideable but........
conventional slabs of the time were far better.
But PC could ride a door AND get it on it's rail

may-be-so
but I don't think that would stop Liquid Shredder if they thought they could sell more
they would just find a creative way of saying what they don't actually want to say
somewhere alone the line it would require the champ to sign on the dotted line ... otherwise they could not use his or her name
perhaps they could get the shaper to sign on the dotted line ...
you never know
money can talk
I'm cheap -

ahhh you get that
I think this sort of stuff happen with Skate Boarding where the Team would all ride the same board
as the team broke up
each rider was bought and developed a Signature board with the rival manufacturer that enticed them away
...
then there were Sony Playstation Games
