Ah yes, I can see Jack making a fine Indian Princess. And I don't want to know about any kind of inflatables you may be bringing
As far as the family thing goes, we're in discussions w/ Grandparents for a little R&R.

M-80s would be insane but we would ruffle too many feathers.
Just imagine Surf, beer, M-80s and an Utz barrel. Oh wait that's another story.

JALAMA

Post by matt cunningham »

I'm up for all three days, my wife's losing the family nest egg in vegas so I've got the crumb crunchers 24-7 this weekend. Was there any surf at Blacks this morning? I have some other blow up toys but they're not actually mattresses,   perhaps we could offer those to Weinbaum also.

Matt,
All this talk about Jalama Indian Princesses has got me sold.I'll probably come up either Thursday or Friday.Maura is coming too so Wino, try to drag Felicia with you and bring the Scrabble game.I can't wait to surf Jalama again, when I was a grom growing up in LA we'd either go to Jalama or Black's to surf, both great places to surf. The drive in is worth the cost of admission alone plus Tarantula's goes off.I distinctly remember getting slammed on the bottom there when I was 13-ah the memories! Hey Bill,

If all of you guys are bringing the wives how are we going to get any peace and quiet? And then you're going to have to obey the laws of propriety, no farting, no fat jokes, it'll be like being at home!!!! Someone said you were at the North Shore gathering, si? How was it?

Matt, don't sweat it, my wife is cool regarding the noises ones body may emit after a fine camp style meal.

Bill, tell Maura not to worry Felicia and the Scrabble board will be in tow. Make sure she brings her running shoes, Feli's training again and will be looking for a partner to torture.

This has the makings for a classic trip!

My wife has been camping at Jalama since the late 1950s and is one of her favorite places on earth. Our only problem is that she loves to burn KBers for the choicest waves.

Jalama Trip

Post by Jimbo »

Just found out I will likely be able to make Saturday at Jalama! Can't wait to have a go at Cracks or maybe Tarantula. It has been a long time since I have been up there but this group sounds like a lot of fun!

I`m with you, jimbo.

Being an OC hermit (and we all know how desperate things can get around here during this time of the year) I`m really looking forward to a change of scenery and the possibilty of snagging a few bowly nuggets.

Things have been so slow around here lately that the last time I looked, a fair-sized colony of rolly pollies had claimed souvreignty under my favorite 5'9".

You know things are bad when you can actually walk a straight line from one end of my garage to the other...

Surf gods, are you listening????

good surfing to ya,

K -- where do you surf? I rarely see any KB's out when I get the chance to go. Having lived in Santa Barabara for many years I am partial to points so I go to Churches as often as possible.

hey jimbo,

I tend to stay on the lo-pro, lurking in the shadows (much like my namesake) of OC`s more notorious locales ( i.e. newport, hb, the cliffs, and even an occaisional soujern to the trestles/oceanside/SD areas when conditions warrant.

I`m generally in and out of the water before most people have even arrived as over the years my tolerance for butt-wiggling, stinkbug stanced gyro-poseurs has eroded to nil.

Sound cynical???...not really. With some thirty plus years of kb`ing it`s been my experience that most of us that choose this form of board-riding tend to be non-conformists, not just shying away from the limelight but wondering why there even is one...

good surfing to ya...

ps: Hey, I just read WS`s surf report for the upcoming week...looks like there may be a little bump out of the south. Keep those flippers crossed!!

I hear you on the butt wiggling. Surfed Rincon alot in the mid 80's and it was comical. Most of the guys really did not know how to turn - just kind of doing an Elvis thing on their boards.

I too tend to get in and out prior to the madness. Just don't surf much in NB or HB. Surfing in the city is kind of weird for me(so why am I in OC? Good question...) Maybe too many Ranch trips with perfect empty surf and nothing really around.

Can't make the gathering Sat at Bolsa - son has early baseball game. Hope you all have a good time and the surf cooperates. Can't wait for Jalama!!

Jalama Gathering

Post by mike schmaeling »

Hi Everyone,

Has anyone heard from Barry Baker? He was working on setting up the contest/surf-off for the Jalama Gathering. I sent him a couple of PMs, but have not got any replies back. Do we still want to see this "North vs South" surf-off happen at Jalama? If Barry has gone 'underground', then I could use some help in setting up this event. Jack, I recall that you had some good ideas on how we could do this.

Surfhorn (Dan) is working up a feast for us on Saeurday evening, it looks like I'll be able to get us several sites together and either Ler or Jon has a new Parks Quad that we all want to try!!!!

Looks like I can't make Sat & Sun due to the fact that my son has his league finals in track & field that weekend (he's a senior) so I have to be there for him.

But I am thinking of going to Jalama on Weds and leaving late Friday evening. That way I can get in a little surf with the early birds and also secure a campsite that other KBers can use on the weekend.

Sorry I'm going to miss the weekend....Jon & Nora are killer cooks!
