Dan,
Will do. Rick will be by today sometime.

After over a week of fun sized waves serious winter style swell arrived.
White water was reaching my beach steps.

Was 15' yesterday, very powerful WNW swell.
Mid to late afternoon only had 10 + - guys out at Sunset.
It looked awesome, with huge A - frames stacked out to sea.
Wind was strong and guys with big (9' +) Brewer guns were getting pitched on take off.
3 good friends washed in complaining they nearly drowned from such.

I saw one poor soul get hung up for a couple seconds at the apex of a huge set wave. He was frantically trying to jump up and down on his board to get over the ledge and drop in. He finally gave up and kicked the board out from under him. The board flew out into space, spinning on it's axis, as he fell back into the lip. He then got launched back onto his board (which was still fluttering in the wind) arse first. He was sitting side saddle on his board as the whole ocean drove them into the trough.

The wave as easy 12 ++ HWN.
Worse... it was the only wave #2 of the set of 8.

GNARLY !

Today is 6-10', looking rather tame in comparison.
Beautiful conditions. No body surfing out front. 8)

Surfed Tarantulas yesterday, 4-6'(backside) and fun. Only about 15 guys out at first and slight offshores.

Swell was a bit mixed with some south in it, some would great lefts would line up but often they'd get very racey down the line. In-betweens were often the best waves with long running barrel sections.

Hoping for a good season this year, looks great so far !

Was all set to head to the reefs above Santa Cruz today, but a friend said it wasn't hitting right. So I went up to Ocean Beach instead. A great call as it was 6 - 10' faces with some nice power, sunny and glassy conditions and minimal crowd mid-beach. Still a tough place to surf (such a vast take off zone, plus getting caught inside after a wave can be rough) but I'm progressing a bit each time there.

The water was so warm I wished I was in a 3/2.

I guess I got a little taste of what OBSF is like this morning at my local. . .

At one point when I was caught inside I think i counted at least 17 waves non stop. Thats a set!

I was cryin' out to the Lord for mercy and paddling arms!

Biggest wind swell I've ever experienced.

Here in the People's Republic, I surfed 3-5/6 foot faces really early this morning before the S-SW winds came up. Nobody out till 7:00. I usually surf in darkness for about an hour, but this morning two homes had their flood lights on the water. That was very nice of them. And the morning news had their own lights on at the local park doing the morning news. Go figure.

Could be epic this weekend for three days, but things change here on the east side. Haven't been out since NYC.
