Hey Tom,
Nice sequence of you at southside @ calsurfpix<sports<Oct.15. Very stylish...Max and I hit 56th early this AM. Fun peaks with the occasional barrel thrown in. Offshores could have made it epic. Came ridiculously close to breaking my lower leg on a low tide double-up... thanks Mom for making me drink my milk :D

HB Pier Was REAL BIG from 7 to 9 am

Post by Casey Patelski »

Surfed HB pier early 8-10 ft bombs. Glass no wind. Couldnt make the 1st paddle out N side tower 6 after 12 wave sets, I lost count. Finally walked down to South Side pier to block the swell at bit and scratched hard. Some sets came in with 10ft faces really clean and some guys wernt going for it. I just paddled right up 1st wave bomb. Got about 6 of em'. Real freaky at first, as we have been training on 2-4ft stuff for months. Tomorrow I'll be tuned. New Poison Dart worked really good. Nice waves Tom on surfpix too.

SB has been going off the last few days, solid(yet somewhat inconsistent) surf in the 3-5' range. Water is crazy warm as well.

Surfed a lonely point north of Goleta the past two days on the low tide til dark and scored with my roommate. Lots of clean rights with a few peaky sections and mostly long shoulders.

Last night the wind switched HARD offshore, easily in the 20+mph range and made epic surf til dark. Had the spoon out and got my first real rides on it, its amazing how that board taps into the power source. Pulls you in deep to the pocket and keeps you there, speeding up when needed or pulling you right back in. Only worried me a few times when coming out the bottom and I'd stand up in knee-waist deep water with overhead sets coming in front of me thinking, "do not let this spoon go or these rocks will thrash it and i will cry"

Hope everyone got some, looks to be more surf coming through over the weekend as well.

I made a good call. That reef south of Creek was really fun. Did not have much time but scored 4 solid rights (finally!!!!) from the reef to the beach. Stoked.

surfed foggy 56 at the crack ,pretty fun not epic had some good ones, kenny got into a few barrels.
had to work a few hrs. got a call around 11 no wind yet. decided to check ss hb :D all i could see from the parking lot were oh a-frames as far as i could see. i couldn't change fast enough.
i traded barrels yes barrels really round ones with a standup for over an hour at the pier bowl before another guy decided to come over. saw scott, and another kneelo on a fineline named rob . i hate to ramble ,but between no crowd and all the a- frames i think it might be the best hb session i have ever had :D
it will be a while before the smile leaves my face :D
max
ps i guess i don't have to stay in newport to get barrelled 8)

OBSF was fun today!

Don and headed out at around the most populated, but best bar.

There was a good vibe, and we ran into folks as the season's now unfolding.

Bruce of www.surfhumor.com was shooting the peak South of us.

His pix are here:

There are some shots of us around the 350-370 pix. Check out Don's shack... 8)

Hey Scott, well done!
Surfed Blacks early yesterday on the high tide before work. It was overhead + and at least 2-3' smaller than Thursday (from what I can gather). Wasn't really that good BUT, I'm sure that with the outgoing tide it got rather good  8) :D
