well the flex tail is glassed and ready for a sand should be to filler coat early next week. Will post some pic's then, it's looking good the tails got 6-7" of flex and have kept the double concave through it just gotta come up with a spray job, have got something in mind but it doesn't involve blue veiners

Rob Rennie
hey Rob,
Sorry for the slow reply mate, busy doing a shutdown in Bunbury WA (100k's north of Margaret River) 12 hr shifts etc. Plus Xmas/New Year etc,Lots of Coopers Lager to be drank, then getting wet as much as possible before the holiday crowds descend on us here in the SW.
In answer to your Q's,my Favourite breaks over here are Peabreak,3 Bears,Boneyards, the Womb (Ellensbrook) Big Rock, Nth Point(when its a lined up groundswell).Mind you,I was a bit dissapointed in the overall quality of that wave-not as mechanical as I'd expected.Margies mainbreak-the left, has only been REALLY good a handfull of times since I've been here(nearly 3 yrs). The right is by far the better wave, draws off the bottom,& hollower, but EVERY man & his dog is on it,so I look elsewhere.
Since arriving I've done 2 ribs surfing Nth Point & Big Rock.Layed up in bed for 3 weeks each time.Oxycontin the only thing to take the edge off the pain!
In the 13 yrs surfing Cronulla Pt/Shark Island, only had my board split my cheek out at the Island,so I've had a good run,I guess.
As to why I've never got into the foam trip,I did rid a foam board on a couple of occasions, but they always felt "corkie" to me in turns,& missed the "sling shot effect" coming out of turns, also.Luckily,I've kept my fitness level up enough with competition tennis to handle the extra demands of limited flotation etc, that is riding spoons.PLUS I've added more foam in the front area of my boards over the years.I make/ride the Edgeboard type of spoons nowdays(as compared to the red Velo of the Cronulla days).
The difference can be seen on the flexspoon.com site,if you'r interested.
Anyway Rob,I'm really looking forward to getting this new board finished-hopefully by the months end,& will try & post a few pix.
All the best for the new decade,to you & all the ksusa.org crew.

SS54, you're the ultimate kneelo: riding the most demanding of knee surf vehicles and a strong tennis player--we could have been great friends living closer!Luckily,I've kept my fitness level up enough with competition tennis to handle the extra demands of limited flotation etc, that is riding spoons.PLUS I've added more foam in the front area of my boards over the years.I make/ride the Edgeboard type of spoons nowdays(as compared to the red Velo of the Cronulla days).
I'm not influenced by the past; I change it!

Hey Scotty, thanks for the rap mate, demanding the spoons are, yes. . .
But as with all things in life,"what you get out of it,all depends on what you put into it!!"
Love the Comp tennis,& a full on practice session also. . .& a 1,5hr beach jog daily. .
APOLOGIES AB,for the off topic reply,mate. . .
A question on the pix of the new machine, the U shaped thingie at the tail,at 1st I thought it had something to do with a fin,but as it's a Quad,I'm wondering if it a temporary thing to stop the tail from warping during the glassing procedure,
I'm probably way off,so could you expand on all that,
Cheers

test drive
On a mental health excursion to the Tweed back beaches today I found myself sharing a peak with none other than Mr Birth himself, who was riding the board pictured above. Generous soul that he is, he soon offered to swap boards and I was fortunate enough to give the thing a twirl myself.
The surf was a little mushy, pushing 3-4 ft with some sucky sections walling up here and there. These were not ideal conditions, but in spite of that I was amazed at the way the board performed. To paddle it felt light but not corky. Duckdiving was a breeze. It flexed in a similar way to a regular pu/pe board, but I could easily feel that it wasn't exactly the same. The entire board felt "alive" as I paddled and when it reached planing speed on take-off the acceleration was incredible, even on fatter, flatter waves. Taking a drop it felt positive but very very light, at times so much so that I expected it to spin out at the bottom, but when I put it on rail it followed my chosen line like it was on rails. Acceleration off the bottom was fantastic, and the projection out of some turns was easily double what I was expecting. It charged around and through sections wth ease and in every turn felt decidedly "loose" (for want of a better word) and yet went exactly where I wanted it to go. The overwhelming difference between this board and the pu/pe rounded square channel-bottom quad I began the session on was its far greater speed and the feeling of looseness/lightness.
I'll be ordering one as soon as I win the lottery.
