No Mate,

Red is 78kgs.....like 175lbs..but tall, say 6'1".

He loves to drive and to rail surf..and has learnt to use his rail every time he turns..and shouldn't we all?

Red has discovered that a traditional turn doesn't come at the expense of length..providing your deckline and rocker are in sinc..

It is too simple to say 'this is why'..cause it all has to come together at the same time. You know that.

But did you happen notice the planshape?..because that's a good start..any straight lines that you can see?

Nuh, me neither.

And none anywhere else eh?

:)

Yeah mate, but I know you saw it comin'... :)

Even though the dimensions reflect a 'long' board (which is all relative to our own way of thinking anyway) all the design elements used are typically 'shortboard'.

Like full-on concave / spiral bottoms just like on a 5'8".. only its just worked over six foot three of length.

Whereas on a 6'3" built for larger waves the conc would be down played a little, with a vees and stuff becoming more pronounced at its expense.

You gotta keep curve up to it..and width..no straight lines anywhere.

Rocker (particularly tail-lift) is more than a 5'8" (coz it has to be) but it would in fact, be less than in a gun or semi-gun for example.

Perhaps the biggest single design issue however is foil..or profile.

The surfer is relatively light and fit..and with 6'3" of foam, he doesn't want a single gram of surfboard that isn't absolutely necessary.

A high deck line for example, would catch over that length of rail in the small wave conditions in which it will be surfed. Too much nose area would potentially push water and bog..as would too much forward rocker and nose-lift.

Red called me from the Airport on his way to Tahiti..he reckons that he only needed to take one board with him.

He did however..take 3.

But guess which ONE..would have done??

:D

Yeah, Hart. Foil - foil - foil. A board has to be completely tuned in - its a complete package. My 6'0" has opened up new horizons for me when surfing under four foot waves. Who would have ever thought that I could attain the speed and quick turning ability of my shorter boards with such a large board.

Next stop: 6'3"!!

Either that Dan..

Or maybe "The Twilight Zone"................................

And what a great pic of Red. He also told me from the airport that he was concerned most about David Parkes.

The last time I checked..Red 1st, David 2nd.

Personal goals and boundaries are so important to all of us..and I'm glad I helped Red reach one of his..and he in turn, help me reach one of mine.

Signed,

Rod Serling.
