Seems to be some conflicting reports on how big this swell will be.
"A big storm did develop off Japan, but it increasingly appears that it will send most of its energy to the Aleutians and to Alaska," said Adam Wright, a forecaster at Solspot.com. "The waves could only be in the 10' to 15' range at Mavericks. People are freaking out over the contest. They shouldn't."
Kevin Wallis, a forecaster at Surfline.com, said, "I think the waves will be in the 20' to 30' range, with maybe some bigger ones coming through. But this is by no means a big swell, by Mavericks terms. And the swell will be very inconsistent. There will be a lot of waiting for waves."
