Hey Farnzilla

I haven't had the problem with board bags - but have on other items that I keep soare fins etc in.... i have found NO solution.... but I did see at the ship's chandlery today a tube of zipper lubricant that was teflon-based. Designed for rain-jackets/we weather gear in ocean/salt water conditions. Might the go for future pre-emptive protection of zippers....
One crowded hour of glorious life is worth an age without a name - so stay tubed!

hi
FARNZILLA

The zip on my Balin bag got stuck shut about four years ago and same.....had to cut the board out or miss a surf - still have not fixed it but with a flight coming up Im hoping to get the whole zip system replaced at a outdoor repair shop or the like - there is one in Melbourne that fixes tents, travel packs, the works, so they should be able to if i cant find one in Geelong.

the problem seemed to be salt corrasion - did not get a surf for about 3 months when the first born was wee and thats about all it took to stick together

these days unless im injured i cant see myself going longer than 2 weeks without unzipping the bag so if i get it fixed the problem should not arise
again to that extent

I wash down my board after every surf. I carry a jug of water in the car to rinse myself before I get out of my wetsuit and to wash my KB, especially the fins/boxes and leash cup.

I was raised in a hunting/fishing/boating family and my dad taught me to take care of my equipement. It has served me well.

Surfhorn

My Dad was in the Navy - he liked everything to be ship shape - he ran a tight ship at that!

Ive rebelled somewhat 8)

But i do like a rinsed out wetsuit after each surf and clean underwear

the rinsed board....mmmmmm....maybe when im more like my father....post 40 :D

but i appreciate your discipline

HOWEVER...one can get their board cover rezipped - just dropped mine into fullbore at Torquay - $30 australian - $25 if it was a fullbore cover - its a Balin - better than ripcurl - they dont touch anything thats not theirs

Ship shape was the order of the day...

Ah, good man, ship shape and Bristol fashion. I aslo spritz down all the gear after a salt water bathing, and that's greatly extended their usable lifetime.

you can use parafinn (sp?) to "lubricate" the zipper. i'm not sure it'll help with the corrosion problems but it makes it easier to pull the zipper causing less strain on the stitches. we have to fly in drysuits up here in alaska (i'm in the coast guard), and without waxing the zipper on the drysuits the zipper will pull tear out of the suit after about three months use

I have a company call "stay covered" custom make my board bags. With my boards being so short and wide. Nothing works.. I tell them how wide & short I want it. In a week, I have it.
I have never had a problem with a zipper yet. I washout my suit when I get home and let it dry. nothing more. I`m in the water 3-4 times a week

nwdude... The bags I use are board bags, not travel bags. they have alittle padding in them to protect from the little things. Plus, they keep the sun off. Since I have all black boards with just wax on them, heat is a factor.I have taken my boards to work with me and had them on the top of my truck all day and not have a single wax melting problem. But I would use them to ship a board somewhere. Just everyday use.

I've got a Stay Covered board bag that I bought back in 2003 w/ YKK metel zippers, that now won't open, seems that the zippers have gotten some corrosion inside. I tried dousing it with pb penetrating catalyst one zipper has fininally come loose, but the other is still frozen. I wiggled the zippers even with a pair of pliers still it's taken a long time for the first zipper to come loose, been fussen' with the zippers for weeks. Anyone know a better way? or a better product? thanking you all in advance for your input
