I saw a guy on a spoon a couple of weeks ago up there. Looks fun to ride but what a different deal.

Sean called me Friday PM and said he was off to a Ranch trip ....told him not to take the check to the bank....and please don't drown.....he got pissed off at that....he didn't understand the concern....

..he called Sun AM, said Gaviota pier was closed on Sat....safety factor....and that I was right on the advice...complete Victory at Sea....Ranch trip was a wash out....

...said he watched 20' Rincon breaking in the Bay...not even Rincon...two dorks tried to paddle out and were picked out neat the oil piers.....lots of wind...Victory at Sea for the most part....

Sean is hands above and then some of all the heroes here.....

....and Rob....you've just made the worst faux pax in your entire online history.....Sean is not known as "The Dog" for a reason......I wish you well.....

.....sometimes you really should just shut the fu¢k up.....

..will post Sean's report later........

Surfhorn - in the spirit of your post about how that storm revealed old pilings and whatnot - I saw this today:

Storms Reveal Secrets on Oregon's Coast

A great article about how the same things happened on the Oregon coast.

btw - I looked at the weather map saturday morning - the isobars were really packed in there! What was the maximum low pressure? do you know? It had to be up (down) there!

Hi, randiego. I forgot to actually look at my barometer. But I kept on top of my rain gauge - in 5 days my house in Aptos (3/4 of a mile from the beach) received 4.955 inches of rain.

We have a lot of old piers covered up with sand from Port Watsonville in the south of Santa Cruz County to Twin Lakes (the beach south of the harbor) where old pilings supported a rail line for a trolley system from the late 1880's that ran from Capitola to Santa Cruz.....wish that were in operation today. Catch a ride up to the harbor and then surf waves all the way down to Capitola.

A ton of sand was sucked out to sea. Now we have to wait on new swells to redeposit the sand. We'll see what kinda' bars we get for the rest of the year.

Surf at Oceanside CA Feb 27 2008

Post by Casey Patelski »

Well Oceanside finally showed its colors today. New swell with some SW in it, 6-8ft faces, peaks, 5-7mph offshores, low crowds. Surfed 2nd peak at south Harbor Jetty. Great barrels, long fast walls. It was like Newport and HB waves all in one. I heard Trestles was on fire too! My 6-0 Flashpoint drew long fast arcing lines, great round houses out in the flats. I have surfed this board maybe 15 times so far and when it hooks up (or I hit the sweet spot), it is truly an advanced wave riding vehicle. Wide stance is imparitive on the back 1/3 of the board, always lean forward even on cutbacks. A totally different speed machine in the juice. Really fun to ride.

Casey,

You got that right, O'Side was on-fire. I was out at the jetty as well, drifted north a bit and was out of the water by 7:30. Saw a Kneelo shread one at the jetty. Was that you? Had some of the best Harbor surf in a long while.

Joel was shooting at the Pier; he said it was on-fire as well with two Kneelos out.

Surfed Rincon all morning. Not too crowded early with some overhead sets.Lost interest because of the crowd in the cove later, and bailed.Had some good waves at the creek early though..

Yea I did Lowers (actually middles) yesterday!!!! :D , I was very reluctant because of the sell on the SLOWLY filling in S. that was coming through and the west winds that were coming up in the afternoon...Casey calls me from oceanside at about 2 p.m. and says its about the same as it was in the morning...6-8 faces good shape etc. NO WIND???? Im in the water at about 3 and couldnt believe how good it was. Couple of feet oh, fast lines, perfect conditions...oh yea, 20 guys at lowers and 5 at middles with every ride takin to the beach with the long (welcome) paddle back. 30 waves later, take the nice satisfied ride home!!! Good week of waves. KEL
