Ive read all the posts and I reckon that in the end, if you were being swiftly drawn towards death by a rotten 7mm of eurathane, be it by a leg/bicep/wrist leash, you'd want an extra escape hatch. Ive been close to drowning and its nothing you can truly plan for.
Planning how to remove a strap is good but not fool-proof in saving life in such extreme and variable conditions.
I reckon theres room for an 'add-on' product that fits all types of cords and is totally fool-proof.
Just to be there in the background...... should the SHIrT hit the fan tomorow........

Any ideas?

Beeline's batman fannypack? Carries leash clippers, extra leash, camera, shark repellent...... Sounds like a marketable product.

you forgot extra fins/ fin key...you mustve seen him way outside at blacks changing his trailer fin....great idea when the swells filling in/ or diminishing..

hes been nice enough to change out my fin too in frigid ventura water...

No leash ?? Everytime I forget mine, I notice I surf conservitively. Even then I do that, I still end up swimming to the beach. One day I forgot my leash and I was st Wind n Sea. Tide was comming in and a decent Swell. So what did I do ?? I did what even other hardcore KBer would do. I had some 3/8 " rope in my truck. So I found something that I could cut a peice off and tied one end to the board and the other to my ankle. You should have seen the looks I got walking back to my truck ..

Toofast, now that's what you definitly call a legrope! I used to not use a cord years ago until the day I rode the Cliffs, I lost my board all the way into the beach, and when I was able to retrive it, I noticed that the rails on my board looked like hamburger.

hey zeke...no cord hasn't affected my surfing at all, I started surfing in 64' and never used one until the early 80's.....more or less my own experiement to see if i can still charge and keep a grip on my stick while others might be pitching their boards....sure I swim some, no big deal....cord's aren't tolerated at some spots at the cliff's...paddle out with one only invites trouble from the closed minded....and Rick is right....i snapped a brand new Hynson at the rock early in the winter when it got ripped from my arms and indeed I payed heavily....I'm still having fun!!!
