Well I finally got some decent surf since Comerong in OZ. Pretty crazy, I left my house at 3am, drove 150 miles to Manasquan Inlet, NJ. for some overhead waves, glassy. In the water at 6:30am wearing a 4/3mm toasty. Got some nice waves on the Drift, freaking got WORKED once! The tide was going out, and the waves started sucking, I went over on about an 8 footer, landed on the flats, hurt my shoulder a little, not a big deal, couple pressure marks on the deck.
I was the only guy in the water. I probably caught the wave of the day, a left about double overhead, big peaks.
And I always thought the place was gutless.
Out of the water by 9:30, drove back and made it to work at 1:30pm with 15 minutes to spare. 300 miles, $40. in gas, and $16. in tolls. Never did it before, but wanted to try it.

PS Don't forget to grab a hot dog on the Pt Pleasant side for breakfast next time- classic NJ breakfast, the place is historic...

Thanks K, I'll try it. I have a touristy map, any particular hot dog stand?
I've been to Manasquan several times before, but it was always mushy, maybe it was on a south swell. This swell was an east, coming in the beach at an angle toward the inlet jetty. Knarliest day in my east coast experience.

5ft lefts today. Went for a reverse on a really heavy section and ended up dinging my board.

In January, I said, weather wise, it feels like everything is a month early this year. For NorCal, if it wasn't for a few small South swells, we would have been flat for a couple of weeks now. It just seems too early to go into a summer mode of waiting for South swells.

Haha, both my boards were out of action today (I had to repair them), so I grabbed this beaten up old 5'7" from under the house and stand up surfed with flippers on. It went great! I had so much fun!

Looking back... went out around 10AM-12:30P at mid-beach. 'Bob' arrived at the same time.

The winds were there, but it was still a go. A lot of bars just aren't doing it, so everyone was once again congregated in a small stretch. 'Bob' and I were doing our best to keep away from the swarming folks amidst the rips.

The pack thinned as the wind picked up. Waves were about waist to shoulder high, short period, with occassional double-ups and more vertical sections.

In other words, more of the same, but a nice day anyhow.

Looking ahead... If the winds behave tonight, dawn patrol tomorrow.

Oh, and the only shark attack is one against 'the big D' at the Shark Tank at 7PM tonight...

Bob hasn't surfed with Bob for almost two seasons, now. Totally by chance, today. Still have your car?

Alas the depression can begin to set in. . .

Winter is gone.

Been pretty bleak surf for this weekend warrior for weeks!!

AND the water is FREEZING!

Been having some fun rediscovering my Rhyn Noll longboard Skate again.

There is a KILLER park by my home with lighted wide cement paths that go winding downhill for about a quarter mile! :D

Siewalk surfin' is bitchin'!!

For you lucky souls who get some surf this weekend, count your blessings!

Peace
