MRSA(methicillin resistant Staph aureus) can be very serious and very difficult to eradicate. It used to be seen primarilly in hospitalized patients, but now we see it in the community. It can start in a cut/scratch and intially acts like a regular skin infection. MRSA responds well to several antibiotics. Bactrim generally works well. I sugest that if you have a skin infection that lingers, see your doctor and have it cultured. Sometimes trying certain antibiotics on regular staph infections will work(such as Keflex in the states) but with MRSA being more common one needs to seek attention if the infections lingers or progresses.

Yeah get better. If Cipro doesn't work, see the quack again. Although I thought Cipro was for gastrointestinal bugs, or anthrax.
Just a tidbit here, did you know a Cipro pill costs only .05cents in India?

Kava, did you get this from exposing the wound to ocean water?
I often find that when I get a shell cut etc, that OTC triple antibiotic ointment doesn't cut it, and oral antibiotics are needed- my doc said the problems were caused by marine bacteria- Vibrio or some others. I get the "flesh-eating" problem if it's a scrape or scratch, or a pus pocket if it's a deeper cut. Did they definitely diagnose yours as a staph infection?

they definitely diagnosed it as MRSA and im pretty sure thats a type of staph infection. it started as a puss pocket (as you say). I have no idea where i got it from??? it is located on my coccyx. a new sore showed itself on my knee today. my cousin who has had it 3x said extra-strength benzoil peroxide will dry it out and remove it if you catch it early. so guess what i baught today?

KAVA... how's it going with your wound??? Hope it cleared up for you!? I met a twenty something stand up surfer at a bar-b-q a few years ago who had the same thing... on the top area of a foot. It left him with a really deep gouge of a scar in his foot. He said he ignorred it for a long time because he knew a doc would tell him to stay out of the water while it was being treated - kids these days
Anyway... sure hope you are over your ordeal! A note about peroxide... the current word in the medical community about using it on a sore is that it should be used only once because not only does it kill bacteria, but it kills tissue as well
