Fish dimensions

Going to have a new fish shaped, a 5' 11" quadfin fish. Classic style, travel board. My other boards are around 21 3/4". I was thinking of going a little wider and thinner, maybe 22" wide and 2 1/2" thick. Any thoughts? Oh, also fins...any suggestions on a quad set of futures? thanks

What are your height/weight dimensions ? What size waves are you looking to ride?

I'm no shaper but 21 3/4 sounds abit narrow for a KB to me, I think 22 to 22 1/2 by 2 1/2 would work a bit better unless you are riding really juicy waves,
I would rely on the shaper for fin recommendations

What are the dimensions on your current board, and what do you like or dislike about it? And more importantly, what are YOUR dimensions?

I do a lot of MMA training and weightlifting, so I tend to be a little stocky. The dimensions for my quad: 5'8" X 22" X 2 5/8", with canard (speed dialer) fins in a Lokbox system. I'm really happy, it's my first quad after riding nothing but keels since the 70's. Good float, fast paddler, lots of drive.

No, not another Lis...I'm having another board made with removable fins for travel (mainland Mex). I was just wondering if anyone else had a board that narrow. I think I'm going to have him bump it out to 22". Anyone try those Simon Anderson quad fins from Futures? thanks for the replies...

I like Futures - plus other companies make fins that will fit the Futures box.

Here's what works for me in all conditions:

Front set: FT1- for twins and fishes (5 1/8" deep)
Rear set: AM2 (4 3/4" deep)

FWIW, some input from an aussie.

Dave Parkes makes my boards. I asked him for a fish for Kirra a good few years ago and he came up with a beautiful quad 5'10" X 22 1/2" thicknessed to suit my 73 kg bod. The fins were O' Fish'l, which were OK but nothing special. I've had a couple of variants on that board since, but that first one was a magic stick that went just unreal. Super fast, super loose, and the best barrel board I've ever had. There's a coupla photos of a carbon copy we did of this board at album_showpage.php?pic_id=2428
Just BTW, this is the kind of wave it was made for.

In my most recent board, which is the same length but 23 1/4" wide and with a completely different tail, I opted for Futures and have no regrets. When the Vector II Quad sets became available I tried them and they went unreal. Gave the board another gear. I won't use anything other than Futures in future boards. Nice firm box, surfs like a glassed in fin, and the foils are great. Board seems to have extra squirt with the Vector II, and with the Pivot rear set, will turn on it's own axis. This means 360s at will and holding power through on-rail turns. Magic combination.

Another advantage with Futures; as Surfhorn pointed out, others make fins that fit the Futures box.

PS. The next set of fins on my shopping list is the SA quads. I'll keep ya posted here if there's a good report to be made, but my feedback will be limited to "goes unreal" as that is about the limit of my technical expertise in the field of fin design / board performance.

PPS. Cappy, I'm working up a theory that you and I are the same person but in parallel universes. Too spooky...
