Interview With A Flexspoon Guru

Post by Scott »

The Cocoa Beach Surf Museum endeavors to keep alive the history of surfing, especially in its East Coast USA expressions (I imagine them as having probably have 5 or 6 wings of their museum dedicated solely to Kelly Slater exhibits). They also have their own online magazine; the most recent featured KSUSA’s own Man O’War and his commitment to the flex spoon.

When I pressed him to let me make this article known to all of us, MOW allowed me to give out the link only on the condition that he be able to share the following apology:
"My one regret in this interview is that as I was listing the guys who've been riding spoons since they first appeared, someone extremely important slipped my mind--Dr. Terry Hendricks. As RW once said: In San Diego when this man's name is mentioned, votive candles are lit. Terry has not only been a rider all these years but an innovator. I think he's made 50 spoons all told, and no design has ever been too out-of-the-box for him. Besides being a local legend, he is a very generous man. I will be lambasted by the SD crew for leaving him out, and rightly so. Most of the other stuff in this article is true :) "

I'm not influenced by the past; I change it!

MOW is not only an innovator, but a CLASS ACT.
