ANZAC DAY AND THE COMPETITIVE SPIRIT
After a spot of gardening (potting up the winter/spring bulbs) whilst drinking a beer, my head slowed back down to a more realistic approach re competition.
As Rudyard Kipling suggested …treat triumph and disaster equally as impostors…
In the AFL today the Collingwood Magpies went down to the Essendon Bombers by 5 points in the traditional ANZAC day encounter.
The Magpie coach Mick Malthouse complained that his players had let down the ANZAC’S by sacrificing a 13 point advantage with 4 minutes to go to loose by 5 points.
On the other hand he suggested that the Essendon players had showed true ANZAC spirit by coming from behind to win.
Sorta funny cos the ANZAC spirit is based on a loss.
The ANZACS themselves must be confused because one team has to let them down and the other has to hold them up…but by doing the opposite to them…now if Collingwood where gallant in defeat then perhaps that’s the true ANZAC spirit
Not that the “Z” part of the ANZACS give a hoot considering that this “A”fl and not an All Black to be seen!
Maybe the 2011 worlds should have the final on the 25th of April being ANZAC DAY…dawn service on the beach and all that…by the left…quick march! Dont wear ya flippers if your a flipper wearer...could look odd!
Personally if i could not organise myself to compete Id at least like to get there for a t-shirt
