2025 US Kneeboard Titles and Festival

The 2025 US Kneeboard Titles and Festival returns to Oceanside Harbor South Jetty, CA on Friday, March 14th, 2025. Over 22 years, KSUSA has hosted 17 US Titles and one World Title event at multiple venues. KSUSA has crowned seven Open Division Champions and six Women’s Division Champions.  After an Epic 2024 Kneeboard Surfing World Titles in South Africa, we’re stoked to get back to the US Titles.

Unfortunately, the 2025 US Kneeboard Titles and Festival has been rescheduled due to severe weather and very poor surf forecasts. After watching the forecasts closely and consulting with the WSA contest director we had to pull the plug on the contest this Friday, Feb 14. We’ve been blessed with great weather and contestable waves over the years and haven’t had a contest delayed since 2007. Our sincere apologies to all for the unexpected delay, especially our international travelers.

KSUSA will partner once again with WSA to bring the contest back to Oceanside.  WSA’s considerable experience organizing and running surf contests will help to ensure this event will be a success.

CONTEST SITE

The venue for the contest will be the Oceanside Harbor South Jetty.

THE COMPETITION
2025 US Kneeboard Titles Divisions:

• Open – All contestants
• AAA – *
• AA – *
• Women’s Division
• Junior Division (under 20)

* Competitors will be placed into the AA and AAA divisions as they drop out of the Open based on results in the early heats.
** Age determined as of January 1, 2025
*** A minimum of two entries is required to run each division.

HEATS
Heats to be four to six man and of 15-20 minutes duration depending upon conditions and decided by contest director and head judge.  All heat draws and results will be posted on the KSUSA website.

OPEN: $120.00
JUNIOR under 20 (includes Open): A limited number of entries are available at no cost
WOMEN (includes Open): $50.00

Note: Contest registration fees were increased last year for the first time in more than a decade due to the significant rise in costs to run the event. Your registration fees and donations help Kneeboard Surfing USA cover costs and remain viable as a 501c3 non-profit organization.

JUDGES PANEL
All judges will be selected as accredited by WSA.

JUDGING CRITERIA
Surfers must perform to the WSA judging key elements to maximize their scoring potential. Judges analyze the following major elements when scoring waves.

• Commitment and degree of difficulty
• Innovative and progressive maneuvers
• Combination of major maneuvers
• Variety of maneuvers
• Speed, power and flow

NOTE: It’s important to note that the emphasis of certain elements is contingent upon the location and the conditions on the day, as well as changes of conditions during the day.
NOTE: The following scale may be used to describe a Ride that is scored:
0–1.9 = Poor; 2.0–3.9 = Fair; 4.0–5.9 = Average; 6.0–7.9 = Good; 8.0–10.0 = Excellent

We will be using Stact App for live on-line scoring.  Download the Stact App in the App Store to view live scoring on your mobile device.  Look for the KSUSA Kneeboard Championship in the list of events.  Click on this link to view in your web browser.

We don’t have a live feed for the contest, but the Surfline Oceanside Harbor South Jetty surf cam will be your best view of the action.  Keep an eye on the Kneeboard Surfing USA Forum Facebook Group for for Facebook Live clips during the contest.

CLIMATE IN FEBRUARY
Air Temperature: Average 66° F High/51° F Low
Water temp: Average 58.5° F
Clothes: be prepared for chilly mornings and warmer days
Wetsuits: 3/2 or 4/3 fullsuit
Surf: February is one of the most consistent months for surf at Huntington Beach Pier. Conditions can vary depending on the weather but we’ve had great luck with contests here in the past with both weather and surf.

ACCOMMODATIONS:
There are numerous options for accommodation close to the contest area.

There are many lower cost accommodations within a short drive of the contest venue.

Camping: Overnight RV camping is permitted in two parking lots at Harbor Beach in Oceanside, California. Camping is first-come, first-served.
