OK, I was the one who posted this topic "How is the surf so far this year in your part of the world?" over 14 months ago, and it's received 360 replies as of today. I win! Right?
Don't I get a prize or something? After all, people must like the words I chose, or else they wouldn't post? Hmmmmm. Maybe I should start my own Kneeboard forum! I'll go buy a server, get it hosted at a data center, spend endless hours configuring the database software....uh.....well maybe not. Thanks Don !

Its been decent here this weekend. On Sunday night right at sunset a pod of 12 or so dolphins suddenly appeared just outside the line up then surprisingly five or six popped up right in the take off zone. They started surfing these sweet little A frames breaking on the sand bar. They were hanging around a bit so I just went about catching some waves.
About 1 minute later I caught a wave, kicked out and started paddling back up to the peak. All of sudden one the dolphins was surfing the incoming swell and heading right into me and moving pretty fast.
I freaked a bit thinking if I tried to duck dive the incoming wave we might collide. So, as I paddled up the face it dove under me no more than 2 feet in front of my board. I could feel the movement of water under my board as it passed beneath me and was gone.
I was bit spooked but pretty stoked to see such an incredible creature so up close. It was a beautiful sunset.
The new NW swell was just starting to show down here this morning. I longboarded some fun chest high stuff at Sano early today. From the looks of it though, I don't it will hit us fully till Thursday.
Change of plans. We're going to surf South Mission Jetty Wed AM at the crack of dawn. Please reply if you get the message. Otherwise I'll still go to Blacks. It's a win-win for me either way I just don't want you to go to Blacks alone and then brag about it being "ALL TIME" or something as you head off for Australia
Brad
What more could we ask for? Solid swell, glassy conditions and lots of sunshine. I love it!!
Special Thanks to Jon Manss for the new board!! I took a few pictures of it last weekend and as soon as I figure out how to reduce the file size, I'll post them in the Gallery.
There are a few worldclass new waves formed from all that rain 75 degree weather ,with hard offshores,2-3 ft overhead(bigger tomarrow). One place has a mundaka left and a kirra right off one peak and is breaking 1/2 mile out -peeling both ways all the way to the beach. A month ago there was no wave there.

South Mission Jetty huh?? Didnt think about that one... I was planning on Blacks but I have the feeling most of san diego county is also thinking the same thing. Dont really feel like dealing with a huge crowd... but just may get down there anyway...
Basically I still dont know what to do, but it may be a bit big for south mission jetty I think. Will check it in the morning and go from there.
Probably still end up at blacks though.
Albert heard from mark that you were up here today. He told me that he forgot to mention that you might want to bring your board. The swell has been building all afternoon and the offshores kicked in around 1:30 by dark it was 2' overhead. according to the bouys and the forecast it will be good up here in north H.B. wed. supposed to be offshore again!!!!!! you will score down there but on the models it looked like around the sunset cliffs will be biggest.
Good Luck to everyone wherever you paddle out
Sunset cliffs is a no brainer for tomorrow. It was showing occasional 7' faces today with offshores and great form but very long lulls. PB point was more consistent but smaller and slower showing some long lines wrapping in with a rare 6' face. Could be real fun with more size on a lowering tide. Also don't forget the LJ reefs. Horse shoe was showing a lot of potential today and there were big bumps on the outside reef at Marine St. which if the swell shows up as advertised can provide a great test wave if you're heading for the North Shore Gathering.
So surf yer brains out.
