Rex Huffman's Quads

Post by julioz »

If anyone here is interested in getting a lis/quad type board that Pavell shapes check out Steve Seebold he was highly recomended by Rex, he's at the moment making me a copy of a board that Rex just sold me the other day. He's been around forever and has all kinds of templates, bunch of old lis templates from the 70's even and without the wait , my new board will be ready in 3 to 4 weeks. Was out today, there at his shop in Pacific Beach, for atleast an hour chatting with him , a real nice guy!!!! My feeling is that'll he'll do great job... :D

I'll second the Steve Seebold recommendation. The one standup board that I own is shaped by him (a G&S 10' Noserider) and it is the best longboard that I have ever owned...

John,

Eventually i'll post some pictures shortly of the boards but to do that i'll need to break down and buy a digital camera still. take care

Julio

ps: the boards Rex uses are lis type fishes but are really thin compared to the original lis fish that I own that was built in 1981. these boards don't weigh nothing hardly. Steve even brought out a lis template from the 70's and the outline was identical to the boards Pavel makes except like the width I believe...

examples of boards in question

On this site are pictures of the type of boards in question.

These shapes haven't changed much in 30 years.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Simple and very effective.......... if you know what you are doing with one.
They do require a certain riding approach.

I haven't ever copied one. Though I rode a few and still have 2, I've not ridden either one in over 20 years.

Seebold has always had a good rep as a shaper.
Fish are a fun trip but, like Bud, I haven't ridden one since 1982.

Thanks for the Photos, Bud.
Those boards are beautiful. The glass and pigment job on the dark blue fish looks great with the wood fins.

Yeah, Beeline, it seems that there are still lone KBers out there in the wilderness just waiting to be converted.

Yea...........wierd.
The links just get me the home page.......!?! :?

They are on the board section of the photo gallery I think.

They are images of REAL Steve Lis fishes.

But similar to the Seebold one mentioned.

I managed to pull 'em up by cutting & pasting the address.

The boards are very, very nice. I could be wrong, are you sure they are TRUE Lis Fishes? The pix are dated from 2002. I'm pretty sure you couldn't get a Lis by then.
I've never seen a Lis with a leash plug.
I've never seen a Lis quad---especially with a Choice logo on it.
The dark blue fish would be a dead ringer IF the pic showed the infamous "flying yin/yang".

I'm thinkin' these are Pavel's. But again, I could be wrong....

P.S.---Seebold was shaping in S.D. well over 20-25 years ago. Anybody that's been crafting boards that long pretty well deserves his props.......

Ask the owner.........

He states them as genuine.
I think he's a friend of Stevie and contemporary.

I posted some pic's for you...... The green one is a Rex Huffman template from Toby. The light blue one (quad) Toby got for me along with the dark blue one.The apricot (new one) is a flawless board that works from 2ft up-? I WILL NEVER sell that board. The green Pavel is a carbon copy of the Rex's favorite all time board. It's a board designed for Big Rock or Tavarua and is very thin and a total blade.I would like to get a Blast next. I look at that pic of the Holzman's at G-land and ..................
