board flex.

What works & what doesn't and in what type of conditions. Got a "secret" only you and your shaper know???? Post it here... we can keep it quiet ;-)

board flex.

Post by K-man »

All that I shape, I shape with the sad reality of rigidity. It is sad, because it is self-induced by the parameters of modern professionalism.]

Heavy stuff hart....Your not hitting the sauce again are ya?Them cheap red wine vegemite cocktails are gonna get ya :!:

Understanding the concept is one thing[flex]The actual reality of riding flex board is another.checking out the board flash-tri] prior to the first surf,I noticed the stringer was no wider than a pencil lead  I didn't order that-*&^%$ AUSSIES :x
tHThen I realized it had to be a flex thing...being sometimes suspicoius the other possibility being it was a defective blank--hells-bells give it to the yank he''ll never know
After a few surfs I got the hang of it,and learned when and how to use it[The flex is one more option]
Would I order another one with flex-you bet :)

flex

K

trust a yankee to get all paranoid on me about stringers

later in that post I spoke of total flex..

as in spoon.

I have tasted flex many times..in the fins and tails of Crawford's slabs.

I feel it now in the boards I shape (yeah..you know the ones..they have 1/8" wide stringers!! ha)

But only spoons will give the total flex that delivers total freedom.

So at least I can dream..

and attempt to emulate freedom within the modernist walls in which I live..

Bruce,

This Yanqui is going to leave work early with my micrometer so I can get home and measure my stringer width. Then after I decide if it is too thick or too thin I will have something new too obsess about.

I borrowed a 5'9" keel Pavel today and what a difference in performance compared to my 5'4" Quad. The keel projected much farther on marginal waves, but definitely lacked in responsiveness. It made me that much happier with my smaller board, especially in really critical sections.

Will try. No camera though. Look on http://www.mandalacustomshapes.com
He has photos. Mine will just be clear w/Lokbox quad canard fin set. Stock shape for him really, just tuned for my body and waves.
