What works & what doesn't and in what type of conditions. Got a "secret" only you and your shaper know???? Post it here... we can keep it quiet ;-)

So where's the repository of knowledge about spoons on this site?

Where's the "how to build your own spoon" (because that's what us kneboarders do)

I like the idea of promoting KS as an extreme (as in "out there") sport. I like the fish movement, too, and the "unidentified surfing object" concept (no fins, just hull shape)

So you guys who know about these things, promote them by giving plans for such boards, materials needed and useful tips.

Those boards look like a nightmare to ride. Cool to hang on wall or in a musem. Great conversion piece

Greenough was making carbon fiber spoons since the early eightes at least. Many ,many, advantages including light weight and greater strength. When I lifted and flexed his spoons at the museum I was very suprised how flexible and light they were!! They seemed very strong also.
Riding a spoon or a fish for that matter , is a completly different style, and not to be compared to a foam thruster------apples and oranges..... Many people can't ride or dislike a fish or a spoon for these reasons. Saying one is better than the other is a rediculous statement. I watched Greenough quite a few times in big and good surf and Iam here to tell you it was easily equal to the stuff all the old men here are doing!
I think the much longer boards and easier turning twins with trailers are better suited for the much older riders of today. Didn't Greenough once say,"Do you want to paddle or do you want to surf?" That said , I feel your equipment or vehicle of choice, is just a matter of what you want to feel from the wave anyway..........

Red's right. A "How To Build A Spoon" section on ksusa accessible to pros and rookies alike would be an excellent first step. I'll donate my rookie notes to help get it going. Don, what do we do?

For quad spoons (jfooj), check out Derek Madison's pics and detailed test ride descriptions on Swaylock's if you can. He posts as "run." He's mid-20's and loves all kinds of surf vehicles. Also check out Mark Miller's new single-fin spoon shaped by George Gall at www.plusonesurf.com. Mark posted shots here on ksusa last week. He's taking it to the Maldives soon for a workout. Mark is also mid-20's, loves all forms, and has that test pilot mentality. It all bodes well.

Finally, on Scott M's comments about performance, my two cents. It's two different kinds of performance. With a spoon, you can see the sea through it, feel the surface through it, bank and roll over on it, twist & torque on it, slingshot out of turns. But there are things you can't do on it, so it's not better, just good. Forgive me for using the same tired analogy, but you wouldn't hop on a go kart and a bobsled for the same reason. Just somebody give us access to the bobsled. That's the heart of this thread.

I will volunteer and test all the spoons, fish, stubb's, thrusters, slabs etc. I will get todays best kneeboarding youth Chayne and Troy, chico, to join me in the tests....we will document via video, speed camera's and any tool available. I will travel and try to interview GG with Chayne and Troy in tail, show GG where kneeboarding has gone and get his opinion on where kneeboarding is today. We could test all the boards in various wave conditions and finally put together a sellable kneelo documented soul movie that would appeal to the masses.

i would love to throw my creative mind into it. 8)

all money's raised goes to the International Kneeboard Association
