So you want cinematic proof that George Greenough was "The Man"?
You want old, grainy, unseen footage of Greenough doing huge cutbacks and floaters 30 years before anyone else?
You want testemonials from Ian Cairns, Sam George, Tom Curren, Brad Gerlach, and Mick Fanning claiming, without caveat, that "George Greenough was the single most important/influential surfer in history. He was 40 years ahead of all of us, and we are still playing catch-up."
Then BUY this movie.
Sprocky and I saw it last night, and it was fantastic.
It will be available on IAN CAIRNS website www.globalsportsproject.com.
They are doing grassroots documentary surf films, like this one, and the more copies they sell, the more they will be able to advertise. We WANT the world to see this film.
It will be available Sept 1st.

P.S. The surf footage of Tom at Sandspit last winter and Mick at Snapper Rock is INSANE. So much better that the NuSkool shred movie "What's Next" we watched after this one. The best part of this movie is it is NOT a kneeboard movie, it's an homage to Greenough, with SICK surfing footage to prove the point that Greenough is a Legend.

There is a lot to be said for kneeboarding and going barefoot your entire life.

Thanks for the alert, EQ! Sounds like a film with far-reaching influence. I just viewed the trailer for the film (with some classic Greenough surfing!). Here is the link. I'm going to contact the film production company and the theatre to see if they would mind me having the Stealth spoon on display on a table as people walk in and as they exit. I think a lot of the surfers would love to check out a Velo-type spoon up close and personal.

Gotta disagree Ed.

The wife got me a director's rough cut for my BDay this March. The flick fell apart after the first quater. It went from being a homage to GG, to how can I drape GG over today's version of hack and slash surfing. The guy lost his focus and became preoccupied with trying to make GG fit today's mainstream surfing. It was a huge stretch of artistic license in finding similar footage that would mimic GG's riding style..... simply put, it was too contrived. I was greatly disappointed after watching it with her on my return from Hawaii. We were appalled with the inconsistancy and the very thin transitions from mid flick to the film's presumptious and preposterous conclusions.

I spoke with Brian, who lives here in town after viewing it, he was embarrased that he had not done enough research into GG and stated as much in our correspondence....but the show had to go on....it's the nature of the industry....as you well know EQ. In hindsight he said his approach and focus would have been far different in light of the info made available to him after the fact of his naive endeavours and countless hours of "research" and editing.

Something is better than nothing, so it gets a rating of 2.5 outta five stars. Inner Most Limits and Crystal Voyager are far superior as documentary films. The interviews in this effort are anti-climactic in their dated hindsight and orchestrated conclusions. They offer nothing new and serve more as a platform for a last hurrah by antiquated greats and mainstream validation than anything else.

Most of the heralded; "unseen" clips came from the obscure New Zealand flick "Children of the Sun."

All the current discourse about GG is pontificating fluff....the proof is in the celluloid imagery....it stands alone....without words or commentary.

High Art and Pure Innovation at it's utmost.

Nothing has come close in 40 years since that last premiere night at the old Huntington Surf Theater were 99% of the audience got up and walked out in ignorant confusion three minutes into Echos.......two nights in a row, for both shows each evening.

Not much has changed since and the current Romanticism about spoons is just as lost in it's enamored direction.

But at least there is a renewed interest.

I guess never trust a surfer to make a movie about a kneerider. But I think you hit the nail on the head--"at least..." The research may not have been the best but the footage speaks for itself.

------That's exactly right! I saw the crystal Voyager in Southbay in what 75 or 76? and 99% of the crowd was ignorant ,dumbfounded, thought the movie kinda sucked .....I was 20 at the time and drove down from S.B. with my girlfriend and a bodysurfing friend of mine and I just giggled to myself as we left after the show...... not much has changed, not really.The bodysurfing friend ( worldchampion a few times still), he loved the movie like I did.

Scott, back in the Middle Ages they used to have one big copy of the Bible per town. It was in the church library chained to the wall. Why? Because of the thousands of hours of copying, one page at a time. You might want to keep that in mind when you display your board.

Hey... RW.... stick a spoon in your ass.
Soon as you produce a better movie, I'll listen to your critique. Until then, anything that restates to the masses the direct link between kneeboarding and TODAY'S surfing is valuable not only for the understanding of our sport , but it's future. People need to be reminded where WE (kneelo's) came from... especially here in the USA.
