How is the surf so far this year in your part of the world ?

I Can´t say much about this because I live in Mediterraneo and there aren´t many waves, but this year we have haven a normal year; for at least 47 days with waves.

It's so good to be home!
Surfed fun 3' reef break Satday for 3 hours with a 'crowd' of 10 blokes. Wasn't so bad since I knew 6 of them.

Travel is nice - great to visit with you guys in Hawaii and San Diego - but you have no idea what a relief it is to get back home where there is always swell, minimal crowds (in winter) and a range of well-shaped waves.

Strong offshore, miles from anywhere with 3 mates and the reef consistently producing crisp clean clear 3-4 foot waves...after some onland problems life is good again for at least 4 hours!!

Noting Halb's surf report here's a light hearted quiz about Australian geography.

Who's closer to the equator (as the crow flies)

1) Someone enjoying a surf at Rottnest Island off Perth Western Australia;
2) Halb's dodging the noahs at Cactus Beach in South Australia; or
3) a kneelo at Dee Why Point on Sydney's northern beaches

That's right with the guy at DY being the most southerly. I've only surfed as far west as Sheringa and it seemed odd to me that I was north of Sydney at the time - mind you no real warm currents down that way.

Are any of our kneelo brothers getting some surf from Hurricane Irene?
She (Irene) has just been sitting there, spinning away off the East Coast (USA)... seems like Willi (sp) or someone, should be getting something??

Shelfbreak it seems that you travel somewhat which is a great thing, anywhere south east of Ceduna is colder as they don't get the tail end of the Leeuwin current [im not too sure of the spelling] which wraps down and around the WA coast, maybe one day I'll see in the surf!!! Best wishes

WAHOO!!!!

South swell hit today. Some fun overhead waves and no wind. Really glad I was able to take off early from work. Thanks again, Jon, for shaping my board. Still having lots of fun on it and haven't busted the fins out on the reef (yet), did come close today though. I was driving fast down the line and saw the grass covered rock sticking out of the water. I cranked a hard turn off the lip and found myself sitting on the rock after the wave passed.

In regards to the other thread on why we Knee ride, I know that I had more fun than the other guys out this afternoon. My take-offs were later, I stayed deeper in the pocket, my turns were quicker and all of my waves were overhead. But most of all, nothing comes close to the feeling of being real close to the water and soaring through a critical section
