Tony (scoop)

You couldn't have possibly thought that your antagonistic post would go unanswered..and at the risk of receiving another overtly personalised, ill-informed response from you, I say this.

On topic

Wollongong (note spelling) was cancelled due to the lack of a major sponsor. As a result, I asked the question of what was required of a major sponsor and that question still remains unanswered.

So much for bi-partisan, unemotive comprehension.

For you and all to know, if we had of been approached with a professional strategy and game plan regarding major sponsorship for this contest, then it may very well have gone ahead. It is, (and can be) that simple. Meaning, was there a strategy or at least a press release which outlined any proposal developed by KSA?

The goose however is now, well and truly cooked.

Secondly, your comment about the (lack of) Sydney Club Sponsorship it downright false and I suggest you speak with people other than yourself before making such ludicrous statements.

The Sydney Club is yet to advise us of the way they would like the sponsorship $ that we have offered, spent. Again, it is that simple.

I trust that with a new Sydney president in Grant Christmas, this will be forthcoming. Why didn't you speak with Grant about this before making comment..or better still, refrain from making comments on an International Forum about which you know little, or nothing.

And now the one I liked the most..

"..beside sponsoring past and present champions who made their names on other peoples products.."

So by this, am I to assume that when Simon Farrer approached me after he had retired from the professional circuit (1996) to shape and work with him that I should have (politely) declined?

Sure.

But what is of most interest is that you used the term 'present' as well and used it in a plural sense.

Not only once again, are you wrong..but you single-handedly ignore the joint efforts of the professional (oops..there's that word again) relationships that we have (and had) developed with:

Mark Slater
Trudy Saunders
Darcy Murphine
Tonina Detomasi
Uri Lanham
Gavin Colman
Matt Gallagher
Red Ceglowski
Kyle Bryant and
Matthew Novakov

..and it is their contribution to kneeboarding on The World Stage of which we are most proud.

If there are any other present World Champions that you know of, that I don't (and with which, you take issue) please let me know.

hart

Tony, I know you are a good man, with his heart in the right place. You have done much for kneeboardoing and the ksa.

To move it forward, lets not confuse passion with reality

Wollonggong comp 2005, when?

Post by dasken »

Tony I count you as a mate, but I have to clear something up here, given my name is mentioned.
I spoke to Bruce twice and we e-mailed each other a couple of times re: sponsorship for the Sydney Club. If anyone is to blame for that not coming off its me not Bruce. With two kids under three and busy in lots of other ways blah, blah, blah- I did what I could for the club but on the question of sponsorship I didnt get back to him. Part of the reason was that the club wasnt really sure what it wanted and thats cool, but its not Bruces fault.
Part of the reason I decided not to continue on with being the pres. was because this issue highlighted to me that SKC wasnt my top priority in life and why I was so stoked for Grant to take the ball was his shaper, surfer relationship with Bruce.
Cheers

Thank you Dave for setting me straight there

BRUCE and all readers
Can I say that I have stepped way overboard here with my statement ealier
This is an APPOLOGY to Bruce for my inability to read correctly his post directed at me.... I felt it was a dig ... and too quickly typed out a reply before thinking it through or reading it in the context that it was directed
For this I appologise wholeheartedly
I hope you all understand
regards

Tony

another idea from a guy sitting on his arse

Post by Headwax »

Well said Tony.

It takes a gracious man to make a good apology - and a good man to accept it graciously.

 Scoop has prof around for dinner. While drinking a bottle of Mount Pleasant "Philip" (very nice Hunter Valley Shiraz, quite full bodied with a hint of black cherries and leather, on special at the moment for 12 bucks) they agree to erase all offending posts.

While having dinner (a very nice poached quail with lemon and garlic butter sauce on a bed of virginal Balmain bugs made by scoop after attending his weekly cooking classes) they decide to organize a Manufacturers' teams event for next June, where all the major (and minor) manufacturers would be persuaded to put up a small amount of money. They would also submit a team (twenty guys?) which would surf under their banner.

Contest would be the PC Memorial contest.

Entry would however be available to everyone. Winner and second place gets a custom board by the manufacturer of their choice, plus a trophy made by an artist - eg Peter Simmons.

Age event guys get trophies (as they already do) and a pat on the back and (the most important thing) credo.

Money from manufacturers goes towards event costs, as do the entry fees. The manufacturers themselves organise the event -not scoop and Hart.

Location of contest? Equidistant from the extremes of manufacturers locales.

Guys like to surf under a banner. Could be good. If the manufacturers got behind it, it would up the cred in winning the contest. Especially if it were an annual event. The trophy would be a perpetual trophy.

Gives the manufacturer :!: s advertising.

And it would give those who are sponsored a chance to give their benefactors a little something in return.

The sound of one finger typeing, two legs tapping

Post by Headwax »

Hi Red,

Well err I meant equidistant from the main bedroom of the parental home (maternal side in case of divorce) of the shaper's older brother, given that all circles were neither concentric nor congruent and that the relationship of the epiphenomena was neither on said compass point, nor was it part of the stock holdings of the NRMA board, but in saying this I thought the bottle of RED wine (heh) was important in removing offending memory cells. (even though it does quite often stain the teeth -esp front ones)

But I suppose a large magnet, placed under the pillow at night, might be as equallyas good - as long it were aligned north south along the poles and that the said sleeper didn't have an early model pacemaker.

Yes, you guessed, the surf is so bad I could only stay out for 47 mins today.

Maybe it should be located in a Steelish city. I've got room for five guys. As long as they don't drink, smoke, gamble, laugh or in anyway disturb my beauty sleep.....

Or err like washing in hot water after a cold surf (heh)

Its okay to borrow my wax comb tho.

Remember, you heard that here first.

By the way, I can tell from your enthusiasm that you think my idea is great. No use trying to hide ones' true emotions on this thread. I know it's a great idea but I can't take all the credit myself, honestly.

Take care. There are big scary things in the water at PI I hear.
All we have in Newie are wrigglers and fish poop.

:D :D after looking at the replys to the cancellation of the wollongong comp, and the ensuing personal banter, thought it was about time i put my bit in again...Dont think for one minute that the gong club didnt want to hold a comp here this year, the guys here were more dissappointed than you all put together.!!! Due to the lack of communication, mainly between myself and john, between the time it was brought up at Coffs, and now, it was deemed too late to find a sponsor for the event. Wollongong was only a last minute addition( at the coffs comp) to our ideas on the circuit for this year, and john and i , both didnt chase each other up , to make sure the other was still on task with the Gong comp.As the President of the KSA, John wasnt willing to run a contest on that short a notice with neither him or i having enough time to chase up $$$$. And as this comp was not on the agenda at the start of the season, felt that it wasnt an event to push onto the circuit. As the fill in for the rest of the year i feel i had to back John up , and follow his lead. That doesnt mean we cant have a comp at the Gong in 2006. We just have to have it slated at the AGM, and then it will come off. 8) 8) :D :D On the subject of the teams event, it was a vote from our club, not to support an event that most of them will not get to go in.This is not to say that they didnt want to have one but felt it had nothing to do with the club "teams".They are not a bunch of blinkered fools like you may think they are , they are a committed bunch of blokes who love kneeboarding and all forms that it takes..But they are all of the belief that the heart and soul of the future of kneelos, is in the strength of the clubs and the people who join them. Most of you would not know these guys, nor might you meet them, but their support is unbeleivable. This is not a put down of the idea to have a Teams event. This is a good idea , and it would showcase those surfers that wont go in comps, but they felt it should be showcased to coincide with one of the other comps at Bendy,Coffs,Phillip Island ????? On a personal note for me, i think it would work , but need to nut out any problems that could arise,, such as do we run it as a KSA event, aSpecial event, etc...Why not put it up at the AGM< before next years calendar is set, and take it from there. It was very refreshing to see that when someone makes a statement that is wrong , they apologise, without reservation. Lots that Bruce says, make sense, and it is good to look outside the square that we all live in , to see what goes on there, and that includes me as well.......SMURF....

Andrew may have a good idea.... not sure about the numbers in the team
but there sounds to be something to look into here maybe...... any input by the manufacturers out there
as far as the cooking goes..... (I loved the scampi I did for lunch last Saturday) .... and I just love the sound of quail with a bug base I really love tapas in a variety of styles
I am not into red wine (wrong fruit) ... though could handle a Rose' or a Pinot Gris

cheers

:D :D I have spoken to you at length, and have explained to you how i feel about the whole idea .You have stated that if it was a clubs team event, that no one outside of the mainstream clubs would attend. That the only proviso would be if it was a non club teams event. In our past experiences with club comps, the number of surfers that could surf depended on how many each club was willing to bring to the event. This always included the top riders and the lesser riders, so no matter what ability you had you could always go in to bat for your team, and every result counted. There is a fundamental belief that the heart and soul of our clubs is run on the spirit that is generated by this...That is why , in our humble opinion, we see that the future is in our clubs, and whatever that may be, will be......SMURF...........

Hi Scoop,

Thanks for replying.

I was starting to wish I had kept my mouth shut
but I just can't pass up a chance to slip a good recipe into a post!

Any feedback on a manufacturer's event??
Good to get a little good natured tribal thing?
Or not?

Perfect surf today and who was at work?

Happy Surfing.

(By the way Red, when the present conflagaration of low solar flare activity ends there is a small chance we will have a large amount of ice melting in the poles. The resulting higher sea level might see a nice little left hander as you come into Bourke itself, just near the second slag heap on the right. You heard it first!)
