Curious what you find distrubing about that statement? The "its all about me" comment seems to indicate you don't agree. I think he meant just that the pure joy of surfing is the reason he does it. Not to "make a statement" or "prove" something (or heaven forbid sell something). What other possible motivation could there be for surfing? To prove "we" are "better" then "them"?Exceptionaly well stated. It would be difficult to expose any better the typical American pholosphy,
ITS ALL ABOUT ME.

808 qoute:
Doc, sentiments of not mattering is a passive method of voicing one's opinion to maintain the status quo, would you not agree
dude,
you sooooo don't get it. kneeboarders maintaining the status quo by remaining an eclectic bunch of outsiders to the surfing community at large. is that what you're selling? we're blowing it by not conforming to some flock of sheep mentality?
you don't get it.
we're glad you don't get it
we're glad everyone else does'nt get it.
we're especially happy that we DO get it.
do you get at least some of it now?

who told you to be like everybody else?
my statement was that some of you ought to show up in Hawaii and lay down some meaningful tracks. The Aussies are carrying your weight. Its ok if you're not capable, but why stifle an individual with the talent to pull it off? If 3' beachbreaks your racetrack fine, but doesnt really add up to much does it? You go to Hawaii because it 10' everyday, and some of the best 10' surf you can get anywhere. What more can you ask for? You are adverse to this?
I think i'm starting to understand your aversion, but why the wholesale approach to denying this? Whatever the basis of your dis-interest in furthering kneeboarding is, why spread it like a virus?
Kneeboarding has its best shot in the last 15 years to become meaningful. The thruster wigglebutt surfing is way over played. Kneeos could actually lead the way, back to the forefront, lay down some meaningful tracks. Why does that threaten you so? No one said it had to be you.. right? So why not allow others to rise to the occasion?

and to some of the less meaningful responses, my vested interest extends only to the degree that I have invested a substantial part of my life to surfing. Sorry, no dollar signs.
you ask my perspective? kneeos were some of the best surfers ever, why not a comeback? , i like the functional lines of kneeos way better than what I'm seeing as in vogue of today's surfers.
Heres Some other fads for you to ponder:
breathing
walking
waking up in the morning
settin the bar up a rung
let me guess which one you've given up...

808,

FAD
A fashion that is taken up with great enthusiasm for a brief period of time; a craze
breathing a fad?
waking up in the morning???

i don't get it. you admit you're not a kneeboarder but you're soooo concerned with what we do. why?
heres a fad.
spewing garbage from your PC whilst sitting in the safety and anonymity of your home. weak
i hope this one goes away real soon.
tell me, what have you done that has set any bar up a rung lately?

thruster wiggle butt surfing overplayed???? some of these aussies on their tris are fricking ripping. totally state of the art.
this sounds just like RW's ongoing rant. i would like to think he has more integrity than to assume another moniker. why don't you take off the mask 808 and identify yourself? what??? sced?

pissing contest?
next Wed I will see "State of S" in Westhampton, NY
I don't expect an epic.
Its a surf movie.
I probably won't find anything objectional cos I surfed through the period in question standing.
As far as expanding kneeboarding...to what purpose?
True story.
This past swell didn't live up to the hype.
Day 2, when we got the off-shores the conditions were such that the newly developed 'Blue Crush generation' was venturing out with their thruster boyfriends, and the boyfriends were doing what they do, show off. I just ignored them and did my thing. I was trying Bud's skegs in my Flashpoint cos it was something I had on my mind for a few days and I finally had some waves to play. I was sitting on this peak away from the hormonal group when I heard the QUESTION.
"Why does that guy over there go so much faster than you?"
Out of the corner of my eye I saw the boyfriend turn red, spin around and pearl on the drop. Not to make a point, it just happened that way, I turned and did one of those no-paddle pitches into a bottom turn and a nice little racetrack wall, right at the little bugger. He dove out of the way. I could see this going nowhere fast and I didn't want the little buggers following me around so I said 'Damn these fishes are fast' and paddled off. I heard him announce, loudly so all his friends could hear, 'He's riding a Fish, thats why he's so fast'. His macho position with his girl restored I could hear a discussion bouncing among his friends about how their next boards were going to be fish.
End of session, I'm walking to my car. THE GIRL sees me and walks over studying me and the board as she approached. "Thats not a fish is it?" I'm not sure how to answer, don't want to start a lovers spat. Before I say anything "You're old enough to be my father. I wish HE surfed. I think if he did he wouldn't be so angry at the world. We were all watching you, even the boys. They're stupid. Just so I know, what is it?"
"Its a swallow tail" she smiles and walks off.

smokin rock, I am 808 not RW, but thanks for the complement, I rather like his take on surfing. My statements are pretty simple, what part of promoting kneeboarding as a valid method of surfing do you not approve of?
This is as simple as I can make it for you... I prefer the well drawn lines of kneeboarding vs. the jumps, hops, trampoline acts present in today's standup surfing. So take me to task.
To me surfing is more about involvement, being a part of the wave than the look at my tricks act. If you can accept this as being a fact, everything else I've said should fall in place for you...... maybe.
In truth, me not being a kneeboarder, I should defer to your judgment; after all, you have devoted your life to kneeboarding and you don't deem it worthy of center stage, who am I to argue with you that kneeboarding is anything more than a side act? Outrageous I would suggest kneeos could set the pace?
Smokin, maybe you could point out the error of my thinking without any personal attacks, its a waste of cyberspace as my value of your opinions, which opinions seem to be founded in some form of ugly distrust, is miniminumal. Additionally, your logic does not lend itself well to productive dialog, or maybe that's your underlying intention? As for my comprehension, I believe its mentioned the Aussies were holding their own, how you confused that I'm not certain.
Do you have anything positive to say?
