most of my boards are shaped similar to ron's style of shaping. But on my next board I am going to venture out and try the "Aussie" style of boards.
mostly i like deep barrells even when its mushy i try to find the barrell in the soul of the wave heh heh. best of both worlds

guys, there are a few buy decisions that no one has seemed to discuss,like the buying process or the quality of the product. i bought a board from ron earlier this summer and he was an easy man to deal with and delivered a well built board for me ahead of any promised schedual. the most amazing thing is i'm a COWG (crabby old white guy) and so is ron. there is usually severe head butting in these situations.but other than trying to find the pick-up point,there were none. BUT here's the (in my opinion) most important point. i was in aviation for 30 yrs. now retired and working part time in a motorcycle shop i raced for 35 yrs ago,surfed since '65. GUESS WHAT-in all those years of flying-training pilots-racing-surfing-driving-i've almost never known anyone (ME INCLUDED) who could use the ability of their machine more than 50 to 70% of what it could really do.you know what? get in great physical condition,practice,practice,practice-train,study,observe,etc. and you'll be better than 90% of the guys you're with even if your riding a piece 'o s#*t.

Boat drinks are drinks that are drunk on a boat. Or near a boat. Or while wishing you were on a boat. Or near someone who is wishing they were on a boat. They tend to be colourful, sometimes too colourful. They tend to have fruit in them. The tend to taste almost, but not quite, booze-less and they tend to pack a hidden wallop.
As a general (but not infallible) rule boat drinks have two main ingredients:
Rum
A paper umbrella.

The reason I bother with guys like this is that this is a very important topic for the future of our sport here in the US....
Guys like Budman are stuck in the 1980's. They are threatened by change, so they lash out at anything new. I really don't care what he rides, and, in fact, if he's happy, great for him.
However, the stagnation in board design is what killed the sport in the US. The bodyboarders started getting deeper, the shortboarders started going faster and more vertical, and the kids on the beach just sort of shrugged and said; "Kneeboarding's lame".
And there went our community, our contest, and our relevance.
You guys, however, in Oz, and in Hawaii, and South Africa, you never stopped evolving.. that's why the sport still thrives.
Now that the revolution in board design and your inspiring movies have reached our shores, there is an enthusiasm that has been rekindeled... we have life... this website, the gatherings, the contests. All great.... possibly, never better.
There still exists, however, a disconnect between where the US is, and where the rest of the world has evolved to. Some of us, NOT ALL OF US, just some of us need to mirror what is happeneing around the world so the sport continues to grow here. That is what i was trying to influnce at the begining of this forum (As was Albert, if you read thru the lines). If we ever want an infusion of youth to breath new life into this sport here in the States, we can't be afraid to try something different.
Because after all is said and done, isn't that the true soul of this sport.
