But some shark attacks occur in dirty water, like yesterdays attack at Leftovers.

There have been other such attacks in many places.

What use are deterent graphics then?

Best to be aware as possible of your surroundings, the other sealife around you, their behaviour and their presence or lack of.
Keep a sharp eye trained to note any suspicious movement or shaddows in the water.

Surfing or swimming in schools of bait fish isn't wise.
Surfing in muddy, murky water due to recent heavy rains isn't wise.

Sharks don't need to see their prey.

For our female friends, surfing or swimming during a menstral cycle would be asking for it.

Also Bud any shark looking up towards the surface is seeing a silhouette of what is on the surface. No Graphics unless artificially lit will be seen. BTW there is a reason that sharks, dolphins, school fish and many other aquatic swimmers are light on the bottom and dark on the top. It's all relitive as to where they are in the water and how they appear to their prey or quarry.

Good point.Marine mammals ventral area is generally fairly dark to dark. They absorb light, which means they make a pronounced silhouette against the sky.
Why I prefer clear boards, which reflect light.Doesn't mean that whitey won't take a curiousity bite, just feel that the odds are in my favor.
Spent 10yrs as part of the farallone shark project. The lesson learned? There was a higher frequency of attacks The darker the decoys became[board bottoms].

At the moment I am looking at those XCEL camo freediving suits. Maybe whitey won't see me, at least I won't be all black like a seal. :x

That stuff is a pain to get off  and someone will tell you its not properly applied  Has anyone noticed as you get more people
in the water you get more shark attacks. When I was alot younger
we had a saying for people who came out and asked if there were sharks.
Just because you don't see them doesn't mean their not there. It goes well with my new saying. What you don't know can't hurt you it could kill you.
Have fun surfs up!!!
