respect..?
Do all of you guys get the respect you deserve in the lineup? cause i sher dont, my name is keenan from santa cruz cali, and i kneeboard at the hook most of the time im in the water. Ive got to say I only get respect when I pull something good, like an air or reversal, which is expected. But im sick of people looking at me like im a cooc from the valley. Everybody knows that im a loc but just cause I kneeboard im an outsider. Does this ever happen to you? I dont expect respect from anyone, so dont take this the wrong way like some already have.

respect?
Most guys in the water have no idea what's going on with a kneeboard. They just follow the crowd with lame opinions about how easy it is.
Don't look for respect from others. Demand it through your actions. Take off deeper, bigger, surf the biggest, be the most core, the radical. At least that way you give respect to yourself.

im in the water to have fun, dont really care if i get respect in the water or not. Leave me to my fun and i am happy
snaking me is not a sign of disrespect, its a sign of ignorance. Maybe he didnt see me, maybe he did and just went for it. who knows? just leave me to my fun and i am happy
most people in the water say very little (hey, wasuup?, or what time you got?) if i dont know them. just leave me to my fun and i am happy.
respect is most times something that must be earned rather than given. its much better to be the anonymous kneelo than it is the kneelo that gets bent outta shape after every little thing. sometimes you gotta stand up for yourself and sometimes you just gatta say to yourself "what the heck?" and let it go. hey! have fun, be safe, and treat others well and likely respect will come naturally
(damn, did that come from me? lol)

All IMHO.
Agree with above... don't worry about it. It's much deeper. That's why the herd of cats chat.
Refer to Maslow, refer to anyone.
We're all surfers, it's all about us and the motion in the Ocean. It's a lifetime passport that passes right through many, connects us with others, and presents many conflicts.
Bring a sense of a life's work to every session, and you will be amazed at what you will experience.
When others ask, articulate. When others chide and test, it's an opportunity to learn, and an opportunity to teach.
Looking back, I think there's been a fairly full representation. Highs, lows... life's work... read in 'passion.'
In ways it's the same as any surf vehicle. In ways, particularly today, it's all too easy to be pointed out as an oddity. Keeping that in context will help.
However, if you're not waking up thinking about the next step as a kneelo, you should change.
Every region has kneelos. If someone doesn't understand a kneelo, treat that person at arm's length... there's something askew if they don't know.
Every region has had a history of kneelos that have performed and commanded respect. Those that don't receive you with that understanding are the question, not you.
Pontification aside, I don't mean to disrespect your talents, experiences or passion.
I'm not trying to be Yoda here... I'm just trying to help.
BTW, what is a 'reversal?'

I want to thank you all for your comments. Like all of you i have been critized out in the water but its not that i care, i want to see if it happens to kneeboarders everywhere not just in SC. Srry if some took it the wrong way like im a wuss, infact im not at all, so for those who put lame comments like no one gets respect at the hook, and the stupid sausage comment, I know, im a santa cruz local, and i know the hook and i know how to kneeboard. i might be a grom but im not an idiot. Im also not boastful or a know it all, so chill out. Thanks again for all the positive comments fro everyone else. 831

thats a good quote right there.splashy wrote:- but don't surf for their respect, surf for your own respect.
i think about that sometimes when i'm in the lineup, like, "if i don't go for this late drop, i'll never respect myself - if i don't try and hit the lip on this closeout, i'll never respect myself." get flattened trying, but at least i can think out loud, "it had to be done."
the last time i took off on a wave trying to GET respect was at el porto on a 8ft day that was just about closing out. everyone hooted at me to go for a left (backside for standup) so i dug in for it, was halfway through my bottom turn with the lip hit me in the back of the neck and drove me headfirst onto the sand in 1-2 feet of water. felt like someone cracked a cement block on top of my head - concussed, slurring speech, the whole bit.
so, in short, only surf for your own respect. otherwise you'll end up with a broken neck!
kneegrom - are you/is he the youngest kneelo in SC??

That's why i said "you want what", kneelos are the rodney dangerfield of surfing. But, when you have good aloha anywhere, then things change in the water. A hoot, a howzit, that was a great wave brah, etc. change everything in the water. It HAS to start somewhere and no better place than with us kber's!! Then people say "that kber is cool" and has aloha. Talk to people and you will find the doors open, not just in the water. The attitude in the world in general sucks, lets no be apart of that either.

Jeez. I just re-read my post... I need to cut down on the work/parenting thing.
Found this on the erBB... maybe there's a lesson here. Profanity lightened to protect the innocent (huh?)
And I still want to know what a 'reversal' is... it's probably something I'm describing diferently but should be calling a reversal?
--------------------------------------
Little Johnny is sitting in biology class,
when his teacher states the fact that only humans stutter,
and no other animal in the world does.
Johnny raises his hand and says. "You're wrong, Miss Finch!"
"Really, would you mind telling us why that is Johnny?" replies the teacher.
"Well, Miss Finch, the other day I was playing with my cat on the porch.
The neighbors' Rottweiler came around the corner,
and my cat went 'fffff! fffff! fffff!',
and before he could say 'Fark!', the dog ate him!"
