KSUSA Ad In SURFING December Issue

Post by Jack Beresford »

Like the cool new banner for the contest Don added for the home page? It's going to be featured in SURFING's December issue as part of SURFING's sponsorship of the 2007 Kneeboard World Championships. I can't think of too many better ways to showcase our sport than to show off Troy Simpson's ridiculous air attack (nicely captured by Slats). That's the level of surfing we're expecting come January. And given the talent level of some of the competitors I've seen who are confirming - that won't be a problem!

Is it me or is the picture of Troy back-to-front?
See http://www.kneeboardsurfing.co.uk/image ... /osw20.jpg

Great poster either way!

Reverse...

Post by Don »

Yep. Rob Slater has provided us with the picture and it was something he scanned in which caused the reversal of the Drift logo.

Good eyes.

Image reversal to match the layout is very common in the ad industry. The poster looks much better with the rider Jumping into the text on the left, rather than out of the frame off to the right. Take a look at any magazine, and you'll probably find a picture that looks not right -- cars on the wrong side of the street for the country, stock photos reused reversed (as in this case :-), or reversed text.

Even if this hand't been unintentional as reported by Don, it is the "right" think to do for this style of layout in a "left to right" language.

I have heard that the mag has been mailed out.
I just made a quick trip up to Santa Cruz and surfed with Jon
while in the water had a surfer paddle up to me and ask about doing airs on a kneeboard.
we had a good talk and he mentioned that he had just seen the ad in the mag.
He was stoked on the photo and asked about the event.
then mentioned that he was keen on stopping by and checking out the action.
hoping to seee him and other stoked people checking things out

Walked into my local surfshop this week and they were stoked to show me the ad and they were very postive about it. The question was...why has kneeboarding been out of the media for so long?

Thanks Don and KSUSA.
