Dean Cleary Kneeboards
Have been hearing about some good shapes, that Dean Cleary has been doing, Aussie & South African designs. Is anybody out there, riding Dean's boards and if so how about some input on they ride.

I have a Dean Cleary board, the Quest model. It's a wide quad with thickness, but it drops into everything and on bigger waves it's really really fast.
I had a guy who shapes for a kid on the WQS check out my Cleary board and he said it was one of the most perfectly shaped boards he'd ever seen. A nice compliment coming from another shaper.

I can go dawn patrol tomorrow, were ya going in Huntington? Let me know.

I have been riding a Quest tri fin, wide and thick. Suits the waves here in Oregon / Washington just fine. Having alot of fun, fast when you need it. Glass and color are excellent.
Dean's good
Dean used to shape for me in SA, before he moved to U.S
He's a good kneeboarder and shaper and I recommend him if you need a board for S Cal

Quest - Quad
The Quest quad looks like the best board for me in S. Cal, as it appears he designed it with our average typical waves in mind, which can run 1-3' and be on the slow mushy side.
I am looking for a daily rider for the Santa Monica Bay - Leo Carrillo-Heavens-County Line on up into Ventura/SB....as well as a board that can go into the 5-7' hurricane & winter swell mode.
I am going to ask him about using Speedfins on it.
Anyone know the diff between a 5'10" - 5'11"?
Somehow 5'10" feels like my lucky number....
I'm 5'7" - 225 (and dropping).
Cheers

Thanks, but I don't have any girlfriends who KB...yet.
When I do, I'll ask all about what they ride and why.
Other than that, I'm sure Dean and I can work it out.
Also, I did find a post here where someone with a lot of time, talent and experience did post about various board sizes for wave sizes.
So far, I'm thinking a 5'9" x 23 x 3 Quest quad with the upcoming carbon fiber Speeedfins, and a Cooperfish tigerstripe job - blues, reds, oranges.
Well, with as slow and as small as Santa Monica Bay and point breaks north can be, most of the time, for a daily rider, that ought to suit me and the locale just fine.
Cheers

Well, you must be more woman than I am, and, I'm 100%.
As far as all that junk mail goes... ie SIZE MATTERS....I have a spam filter for it.
Hey, did I tell you about the guy who was out, stand up surfing, without fins, without a leash, on a bright yellow sponge at County Line in OH surf?
Couldn't have been more than 42".....and while trimming across the wave faces, sometimes he'd inch closer to the nose to get more speed going.
He flutter kicked with his feet back into the line-up....caught every wave he wanted.
How'd he pop up?
He didn't use his hands.
Ok, maybe to pop up on his knees he did, but once on his knees, he then brought one up, then pushed himself all the way up on that one, bringing the other one up...with no noticable wiggle.....he was flawless....pure grace, and, I watched him catch 15 waves, before I had to leave.
Had a body sort of like...Joel Tudor.
I thought maybe it was him, just out...training!
Wish I had gotten that on film.
It was like watching someone skateboard on waves.
I'll never forget it.
So, there you have it in the technique department.

to Beeline
Hey Beeline, looks like you’ve come up with a bad case of foot in mouth disease. Ler turned me on to the perfect remedy, as he and I both catch it on occasion. It’s not a cure, and I don’t think there is one for those who are susceptible, but it relieves the pain and inflammation so natural healing can occur. You take it orally, except in extreme cases which can be administered by others, and it’s called Apollo G. You can get it right here online; yes that’s right online, at www. Apollog.squirm. Jon

Beeline,
i read the original post, then your response with the 1" joke and thought it was funny and not too tasteless (for kneeboarders at least). c'mon folks...let's have some thicker skin and less political correctness lest our lives become a bowl of un-flavored jello.
aloha,

actually there are two really talented DK(drop knee) spongers round here that pretty routinely go all the way to standing and skate around on their sponges, wearing stubby fins. one likes to kick it up in the air and catch it doin sort of a dive re-entry. I've said before.. spongers OWN the air. boosting up 10 feet then diving over the falls into sick pits is just part of their stoke. doin a barrel roll in the barrel just a sick way to set an edge. gotta love all the craft in the water... just what makes one choose which one to ride?
