Wow guys, theres certainly a bit of emotion and uncalled for slander going down.

When I started this post it was to get EVERYONES opinion ,from shaper to weekend warrior  ,and from there I could make my own choice on what I thought to be correct.
This site was developed as voice for all kneebpoarders, not just shapers (no disrespect intended). We are all very much individuals a trait that I have noted to be very strong amongst kneeboarders.

Lets keep it friendly,we might not always agree, but thats what makes all of us what we are.

Hi Beeline
thanks for that post about surfboard design, great read, really informative. I didn't expect the comments would bring on such a tirade. I have learnt something new. Gentlemen enjoy your waves no mater how you surf.

-Matt my brother! I know you are a very observative guy and I know you have respect for all those who have shaped, experimented and have years of trial/error expierence. I see you going down the same road of experience. That is why i'd never have a problem with what you have to say on topics. Your innovative!
-Beeline you just surf the internet and talk and talk and talk about stuff you just READ. Little from personal expierience. My dad was never challenging the fact that what you LOOKED-UP was different from what Bud was saying, but the fact that you post this stuff up and it really has no substance. It wasn't really your own opinion because you just READ IT. Have you even gone out in Over Head + waves with some-to-moderate chop and tested what board works best in that kind of condition? Highly doubt it.
My point is; surf the internet for your own personal knowledge, dont share it unless you personally went out and found it to be true. Let the real veterans, and people who surf waves not cyber space do the talking.

Man, you guys can get angry can't you!!!
very passioniate punters!
I cant see the design of your board having any affect whatsoever,if you hit a decent sized bit of chop at speed it's going to send you flailing like a goose across the wave face. It's happened to everyone at one stage or another,we just have'nt got the absorbtion(suspention)of legs
Don't be fooled into thinking there's an answer
Sorry boys there's nothing we can do about it.

Well,
My simple Q to bdwqld seems to have set things off. At any rate, I learned a lot, and the best part is, I now need another board- with a V bottom - for choppy waves! :D :D :D

CALM DOWN EVERYONE! ITS OKAY FOR PEOPLE TO SHARE THEIR OPINIONS! I know that putting that in caps was hypocritical.

If you think or know someone is wrong, let them know--kindly. Good vibes people, good vibes.

thanks for the kind words Shaun... it was hard deciphering if i should post or not in the beggining of this thread....having nothing but respect for both your dad and Rob...i would never want to damage either relationship..

what you dont know is that Rob HAS shaped quite a few boards and is in the middle of a new shaping stint.... ive witnessed him paddle out at big Middle-peak on a new board when it was too big for me ...

and Im a swaylocker too....nothing wrong with that :)
dont forget terry hendricks used to post there quite often...

This site need maore threads like this, makes it fun to log on and see some more gas on the fire.
Best board I ever had for bump was a heavy swallow tailed quad with a V that started about a foot back from the nose and ended about a foot from the tail. It worked great in big bouncy waves, just plowed through the chop. In small clean waves though it was a dud, that's why I turned to concaves.
From the onset this thread should have been directed to Bud McCray. I've never met him but he is the one that consistantly shapes boards to ride the waves of the North Shore of HI. Home to the biggest bounciest waves on earth. That and the fact that Bill L. swears by them is all I need to know.
