Its says "favorite" (sic) not best

Post by Shaunsy »

The poll clearly says who is your favorite modern day Kneelo - not the best - so what if Joe Charger obliterates the local beach - if no-one knows who he is he can't be in a poll for favorite kneelo.

Well, a favorite kneeboarder implies who's the best, as a poll also implies a contest by comparison. If you really want a favorite kneeboarder define whether it's your favorite kneeboarder at - contests - free surfing - at Blacks - in 20ft Hawaiian - at wiping out - at putting others at ease - ... etc.

What ends up being true about the poll then is not who is the world's best/favorite kneeboarder, but who is the most POPULAR World's Best Kneeboarder (as determined by a select group of people who form a small porportion of the kneeboarders who are online who then choose to vote). So the Poll in and of itself is ultimately flawed and not a true representation, and probably not a true consensus either - only the consensus of those who choose to vote.

Martin - I nominate the Groms for being my favorite kneelos on account of their stratospherically high level of STOKE!

And so it goes... Another simple question gets over analyzed :? Favorite Modern Day Kneelo and 4 choices. not who is your favorite kneelo in all the world, not most skilled kneelo, not favorite local kneelo or kneelo that has given most or least to the sport. The question IS Favorite Modern Day Kneelo of the 4 choices listed. heh heh sheesh! 8) pick one and move on or dont pick any and move on... and no it was not I that started this poll

Gav, couldn't agree with you more.

I didn't have many kneelo influences when I was growing up on the far south coast, so I thrived on kneelo images in tracks and whatever other magazines where around at the time - while there weren't many, most were of Nov and Simon. The first time I got to see them actually surf was in 1988 at the NSW State Titles on the Central Coast - Baden, Gav and Steenos were there too.

Seeing Simon surf changed surfing for me from that day onwards. In '88 I remember sitting on the beach watching Simon surf being awestruck at how anyone could ride a kneeboard in such a powerful and graceful way. It wasn't until about 6months later that I met him (and Albert Whiteman on the same day!! as a grom from the bush that was a big deal, well for me anyway). 20years on and I still get that same feeling watching Simon surf.

Those Simpson boys and that young Slater chap rip hard too, would love to see more of them in action.
