I was always under the impression that this was the culprit.

What was- grabbing the rail and hanging on for dear life in big surf? Not that there is anything wrong with that- but only a few with that style can claim anything "creative" about their surfing. Most seem to use this argument as an excuse for why they only can go straight.
Ridding kneeboarding of its singlefin mentality since 2007

Hey, tentacle testicle. I've always been around just lurking. This thread looks like it has some potential to explode, so I'm in, plus theres no surf.

As far as taking off big, grabbing a rail, and going "straight" I really see nothing wrong with that. Especially if you view kneeboarding as a metaphor for life. See how much fear you can endure and either quit or go back for more. Who cares what it looks like? My nugs can get bigger and it's not from a portugese man-o-war stinger. I fear less.

For a person who denigrates contests, RW, you certainly seem contestable.
I spent almost 30 years with the same attitude and since I have been involved with the Australian Circuit and the local WAKA club I've got to say that I don't think I have enjoyed my surfing more, I have met some great people and seen some mindblowing surfing and with the global effect that this site affects the world kneeboarding world....? I suppose it's how you approach it, I certainly don't have any pretences at being amongst the elite but I certainly enjoy surfing with, and against fellow kneeboarders as I'm not trying to outdo anyone but enjoy the whole event, being with like minded people and enjoying each others company........ (RW's a real person isn't he not just another of you yanks setting me up again ?)(just the 70's catching up with me in the form of paranoia) Without this site and the Contest circuit I wouldn't have met Bruce Hart, Rob Slater, Dave Parkes, Simon Farrer, Baden, and all the other guys that I have met, and ladies, I have had some great laughs and times with the whole contest arena - and yes, I have met some intense kneeboarders that seem totally wrapped up in being the best, but thats where they are at and thats cool with me......... you seem awfully intense about the whole contest thing RW.... CHILL man Chill out and enjoy what there is in the kneeboard world and if there is something that your not cool with....let it be and let it pass you over and enjoy all that is there to enjoy.......my god.. that was a flashback from the 70's........anyway thats my 2 1/2 cents worth (converted to american I think I'd end up owing).

Now lets see what hits the fan now ....aye boys

Cheers Wolruss

Very well said Wolruss different strokes for different kneeboarders
the only thing destroying kneeboarding is negative voices like RW,s
we all get our thrills in different ways including kneeboarders be it in contests or free surfing

Hey Albert you out there :?: This is a prime time post for you pipe in.

Wolruss well said, I'm a Yank version of you, I've had so much fun @ our Gatherings, USA titles and then the Worlds titles this year were great. All because of this site.

I'm an average kneeboarder @ best, no illusions there , but being exposed to so many great Kneeboarders just in SoCal, makes for a huge list of insperational characters, that I can call my freinds and mentors by default! just surfing w/ them makes me want to be better and progress.
Look @ the progressive Board design we all share now it's awsome. I guess it's the glass half emty or full thing.

I don't know Maybe RW just has OFS

Hey Martin,
Actually this'll be the THIRD year they've had kneeboarding heats at the PB Summer Longboard Classic, I've got the '05 travel mug and '06 coffee cup to prove it.

Glad to hear it was postponed to Sept rather than cancelled. Know where I can get an entry form? Couldn't find one on the club website.

Stay wet,
Sprocky
