Hey BeeLine, you should invite geno up here..well show him a good time. id like to know why he has so much negativity towards everyone here on the site, its a joke..I personally dont have a problem surfing anywhere up and down the coast but Geno your alienating yourself from surfing anywhere..i know RW, he knows how ive been in the past, but the past is in the past and theres no need to criticize anyone u havent even seen surf. I havent seen u surf and i dont call u a kook.

I'm new to this site -- and find the banter amusing -- I can't believe how thin-skinned some of you are and wonder how you survive the line-up if you can't handle being called a kook on-line! I found no threats in the posts by Beeline from Geno -- only an invitation to play. Quit being such girly girls!
And keep the free thought going SF...surfers use to be radical and willing to think and care about the environment and each other...free spirits in a world that wants to reign us all in...don't make someone take their marbles and go home because they don't want to play like you want them to.
But, what do I know -- I'm just a chick...

Hey Peaches I sleep next to a chick every night! Im a big fan of them. Two little chicks in the room next door. Dont go putting ya self down. Thats what got the ball rollin in the first place - good vibe about your self then good vibe about others. Even if you were just being tongue in cheek

Well, from one chick to another - isn't there enough division and stupidity in the surfing world (and the world in general) to tolerate more?Peaches wrote:I'm new to this site -- and find the banter amusing -- I can't believe how thin-skinned some of you are and wonder how you survive the line-up if you can't handle being called a kook on-line! Surfers USED to be free spirits and radicals. Now too many of them are angry, annoyed, bitter people who draw lines and alienate themselves. This is "my" spot. This is "my" crew. "You" are not welcome.
What's next? Surfer and non-surfer drinking fountains?
Surfers, by and large, are not taken seriously because of our mostly vacuous behavior. Development has happened, the surfing industry has exploded and begun pandering to the 12-24 crowd and the majority of surfers sat in the sand, cried like babies and attempted to turn what should be an incredible experience into some Holy Fraternity.
Calling interested newcomers who actually want to learn something and not be a menace in a line-up a KOOK is not helpful. Stamping your feet and whining about overcrowding and development is not helpful.
Differences of ideas can be expressed without scathing commentary and name calling.

As a mother of FIVE - scathing commentary and name calling is just a part of everyday life
Two of my kids are new surfers in San Diego - using long boards on beach breaks and finding a lot of help in the water - so far their experience has been awesome and they haven't ran into anyone angry or annoyed. I've prepped them for potential name calling and predatory behavior -- but their experience has been totally positive and makes me proud to be part of the community. My point was it seemed contradictory to not tolerate the intolerant....and the "just a chick" comment was an oxymoron....
Back to the subject -- arms and fins!
Has anyone tried kite-surfing?

can you do it on ya knees?

Peaches, sometimes a bowl of fruit is saved by removing an over ripe mango!
Put the over ripe mango in the compost (thinking green, global warming and organic here) and let it decompose (stew in its juices) until it changes (as Steen said "we all make mistakes, depends on how ya bounce back) Compost is really good for fruit trees!
Difference between a mango and a human? Mangos accept their organic nature and change (eaten or un eaten) Humans sometimes (quite a bit!!) dont accept change is needed and sometimes a hard lesson "might" help.
If you dont come down on your kids occasionaly id be suprised

-in regards to the A vs. F
different strokes for different folks
You really have to find what your comfortable with, where your strengths lie, and what are the conditions. And there is always going to be the learning period or hardship period where you have to push yourself to get to the next level. Fins are what i grew up surfing with. Then two summers ago i decided to finally learn to stand-up surf. Did so on my 5'7" BLAST-Stub Vector, I was probably around 6' then. I picked up the standing part in about two sessions. Yet the hardest part was the paddling with out the fins, that summer it was crazy flat so all i did was learn to stand up in the knee-high waves on that lil stubb. My arms burned, and i remember at one point i started have a shoulder pain that felt really bad, and not in the soar way. But since then i've been switching from fins to no fins or forgetting my fins on chest high+ days and It's been good. I have no problem surfing with out my fins now and I just go really fast with them. So I suppose MY PERSOnal View is that having good arms does add thrust and acceleration. and kicking really adds that extra drive especially for those big mofo waves. Being able to do both is the key.
BUT again i feel that You the surfer has to learn it, and decide what's right for your bizzness out in the water.
-I say, Kite surf if it looks like fun, cause any wave riding/ocean riding will help you progress, now you have one more view of waves.
