contest update
We've got a clean bill of health from the City of Oceanside for North Jetty. Now we just need that swell to fill in a little early!
See you all Friday.

day one
Day 1 is complete. The crew did their best with what was there - knee to chest high and generally weak. On the positive side, it felt like a summer day with temps in the 70s and little to no wind. Plenty of stand-out performances. I left before the late p.m. heats but Shaun Murphy appears to be on a mission. Definitely an advantage for the lighter, smaller guys - at least today. Hopefully we get a little more swell tomorrow as we're joined by the Juniors and Women. If you're in the area come down and say hello. The weather is going to be awesome again and the competition should be fierce (although the vibe is very, very positive). Tomorrow night at Hensley's a new KSUSA Champ will be crowned along with the accompanying silliness as folks blow off steam!

Re: day one
Today was so much fun it should have been illegal. I can't believe I did so well. My brother Pat was the one to beat today, and Backer finally got him in that quarter, but tomorrow's another day and if the swell kicks up any, it'll be incredible. I'm sunburned, sore, and completely exhausted, but would do it all again in a second. Best 2800 miles travelled for 9 hours of fun ever.Jack Beresford wrote:Day 1 is complete. Way to go Pat and Bri!
Both of you did SO well this weekend! Pat, CONGRATULATIONS on taking 2nd! WOO-HOO!
Bri, I'm SO glad you came out this weekend. I've missed you! What a trooper you were agreeing to be in this contest after not having surfed in so many years...
My brothers rock!

From what I could make out, everyone was very impressed, and had a great time! Very glassy, sunny and contestable. The warm weather and favorable conditions were evident by everyone in shorts, instead of raingarb.
Veteran event-goers called this on par with all of the other great events.
Notably, the groms are improving by leaps and bounds, and made their presence felt!!!
There are probably many folks' results your wondering. The din was pretty bad. What I did make out, Jack's knee kept him from surfing past his first heat.
Kudos to all!
