I saw my very first actual real live kneeboarder Saturday at the wall for the first time in like 25 years!!!

It was like lookin into a mirror

I didnt know what to say, maybe the smile was gettin hooked under the wetsuit hood... We even had the same kind of board with the Quest tail quad...it was fricken weird. But he had CH splashers and I the CH Makapu.

The waves were hot and the sun was out and the view was awesome!!!

2...18....2007:

the Underground entertained today.

"The Butcher" and "Hero" Joe took a guest out to the Rock for some eye opening shock. He got a Garabaldi's eye view of what it takes to surf the Rock. Crowd control....and....guts. "The Butcher" can tell the Tale of the newly crowned "Hero" Joe for ya sometime. It's a Rock classic!

Later in the AM one of the newly, almost formed, but publically declared, Secret Kneelo Cove criminals....or is he a cop????.....called from the road, in transit south, for a clandistine infiltration into the Bowels of the Underground. Well it was two days late but still there was surf to be stolen from floundering kooks. Saturday was sreaming 6-8' and brutal.....

...sadly I surfed alone with two dorky longboarders for 6 hours.....but today was different....the Crew was off and in town for the day.

Our guest infiltrated himself into some clean headhigh, 2-3' surf at the only place dribbling enough to work through the extreme tidal swing. Eighteen guys when we went out.....13 after our takeover of the outside peak.....then.....

"Hero" Joe comes flippering out and the numbers dropped to 10. The kooks were being dominated by an average age of three 50 year old grizzlies. Twenty minutes later "The Butcher" paddles up from one break over and it's toast for the flounderers. Two sets later it's 4 of us and a couple of dorm punks from up on the hill. No mercy is ever shown to this transient population.

It was a fun day......and our Secret Coven criminal.....who looks like a cop..... had no trouble being one with the Underground for a day. In fact he fit right in with strong powerfull lines, the hooded stare, and the tried and true UnderGround Salute.

Surfing is not a social sport....never has been....never will be....and we like it that way down here....you would too....

...and so ends another day keepin' it real here in the Underground.

RW, Looks as though I missed the surf at the Rock with the Underground. I'm just like you Martin. I missed it because I had to work on President's Day! I did get the text mesage from "The Butcher" asking me, "Want to surf the Rock? at 5:00 am but I was at work already. It would have been nice to have four 50 year old grizzlies in the water taking over that peak. :) Mark.

RW enjoyed the post and the attitude. We take a small crew of boyz to the 'big' breaks here on the right coast and occasionally dominate.... too much fun to see the logrolllers and dormites get a taste of their medicine. Keep up the good work, maybe someday I'lll get out at the Rock.

Last weekend was about as good as I've had this season. Three day weekend, decent swell, beautiful weather, and the wind was cooperating. Four sessions in three days, at four very different surf spots, surfing three different boards, sharing waves with good friends. One agro session that turned friendly as soon as the first decent set pushed through. Rewarded with few waves that still have me smiling. :D

This weekend sucks. Sitting at home with a cold watching the rain come down.

Harvest Buoy is at 32.7 feet... The waves are XXL in ventura. Rincon was WORKING and easy triple OH.. Saw one guy start to paddle out, Ventura overhead has a tow team working it and pulling into some biggies!!

Towing into the Overhead??? That's really a shame and completely not necessary. Easy paddle - HUGE channel - and no close outs. I was wondering if anyone would tow into Rincon. So hard to get out there when it is really big - figured someone would give it a go.

It was shifty, bumpy and somewhat storm surf..I didn't see any paddlers except a ballzy sponger that was making freefall takeoffs ! Paddlers would have been eating it..DUUUDE!! it was Gnarly out there! Lots of closeouts !

I'm getting reports that this swell (today) is competition for the biggest swell
in a few or 5 years around here.
Seal Beach (Esther Oil Platform) is breaking.

I'll be checking SB Southside on my way to work in the AM.

WG - Strom surf is a different thing. I was thinking of the normal circumstance at OH>
