what im asking is ... do you ride your Romo from 5' to 12' or whatever , using the same fin set?

I did, the hollower the surf the more I would moves the fins back. For those rare OC dredging days they are great boards. Like others have said, different board are good for different things.

Not dumb at all.

Boards with their fins forward work and respond better when the ridder leans forward.

Think about a surfer putting his back foot over the fins. This is how he powers through a turn.

When the fins are moved up from the tail, it allows the rider to power off the fins and rail by leaning forward and into the turn. (Just look at the photos of Gavin in Santa Cruz or The Simpsons and Albert in The Photo Albums or Simon's Videos ect. ect.).

Now their are plenty of Kneelos who have an "upright" style, and have their boards crafted to respond to their needs.
One great example is former World Champ Baden Smith. His style is more upright than say Simon's or Jamie's, and he also loves Quads and a fins forward design. To get the boards to do what he wants, he rides verrrry long boards. His small board is a 6'6"... his gun is 8'2"... and he is not a big guy.

I think KidRock said it best:
Grab something (a real kneeboard, not a surfboard that LOOKS like a kneeboard) and give it a try.
If you like what you're doing... you're having fun... stay with it.
But be warned... you'll probably become an obsessive weirdo like the rest of us and spend the remainder of your life on The Insatiable Quest for perfection.

Welcome to the Asylum.

Red-X fins

Post by SouthernTim »

FYI, you can contact Red-X directly and get fins through them.

www.redxfins.com

Better price than retail, and you get a full selection of fiberglass fins rather than the composites found at most retail sites.

Good price, nice folks there, and quick shipping.

One nice thing about the RedX composites is that they break off clean with no box damage when those annoying longboarders drop in and then cut back into you.

Sad but true..... At least in my case the long boarder was not to upset that he caused the dammage. I just hate when they get all upset because I was surfing behind them...

Fortunately, we do not allow longboarders at Sewer Peak.
