Sitting here in Nusa Dua, Bali, with my second icy bintang besar in my hand, it's hard for me to decide which was worse, the two years I lived in Delaware or the three years I lived in Houston... Hmmm, I take that back. Houston wins for shittiest surf. The closest I got was eight foot monster mush from hurricane Ivan. The sewage water was Coke-e-coli brown and smelled even worse mixed with petrochemical biproducts from the refineries and the port.

Dude, skip the road trips and save up your gas money, stay in the gym, and get into the real stuff closer to the equator. Continental runs a daily flight right into Aguadilla, Puerto Rico from Houston (unfortunately, you have to go through Newark, NJ to do it.) (Airport code BQN for boriquen!) Costa Rica is even closer on a map, or do like I did and get over here to Mecca!

P.S.: Just to make my point... I broke my third leash in four weeks this morning at Nusa. I knew the wind wouldn't last much longer so I tied a knot in it and paddled back out over the reef. Two waves later I buckled my new 6'2". It's the third board I've broken the stringer on in 12 months! (And I was in the states for 7 out of those 12!)

I'm in Hell Paso. Just found out last month that I was selected for a transfer back up to the Pacific NW...until it was nixed by some bosses I've been pissing off the last few years. They think I'm one of those Bandido club members

I've been promising myself to make it out to SPI or Corpus during a swell, but haven't been able to keep the promise to myself yet.

If you or your boys out there can give me the call on the next swell out there, I'll take a couple days off and come out for a surf.

Just a long flat spell Jackson. After this weekend we will have warm water and no crowds until next spring.

Paul, did I meet you in Santa Cruz? Sorry you didn't make it down to SPI.

Mike: No, I don't work out here... unless in Texas you consider surfing work! haha. A year after my divorce, I saved up my dough from working at Texas Children's Hospital, quit my job, and surfed for six months! I loved it so much I became a traveling nurse so that I job get the moola and still scoot off every six months again. It's been working pretty well for the last three seasons, but now there's no contract jobs to go home to! :( So... I've extended my surftrip to the limit of the validity of my airline ticket!

Check out the bali surf forecast for 9/13! Triple over head at least! I'll be at a little semi-secret sheltered cove that only works when it's big...but boy does it work!

Quadfin: We may have seen each other in SC... I have a sister who lives there, so I used to go there often. I had to miss the last KSUSA contest there, though.

Remember meeting you in 2005 and you working at TCH. I am planning to make the HB contest this winter. Little warmer on my southern bones and have a place to stay. Hope to see you then.
