Seems like a lot more swell this year. Good for Santa Cruz, bad for SF.
Is this related to a mild "El Nino" or just basic luck?

MASSIVE !!! And the Surf is definitely getting even bigger this evening.
Set waves were breaking top to bottom on the horizon as the sun set. Ocean is roaring very loudly as I write. 50% of the sand along the parking area of Sunset is gone. There's a steep drop off along the bike path there. I'm thinking there will be serious devastation along the beach from Kami Land to Keiki. Day break will be very interesting. Might even be "too big" for Waimea. Tom Carol broke his femur there today. :(

checked the Hamakua side and watched huge lines marching down the coast.
big................big swell 8)
the north shore must be an amazing spectacle Bud.

Steen the event is on:

"Open ocean swell is holding steady at around 16ft at 17 seconds on the real time buoys which will produce over the 20ft required size. Sets should peak in the 30ft range."

Mark - I couldn't get that link to paste correctly into my post either. The link works if you paste the whole thing into your browser, but the forum software doesn't like the dashes in the URL.

Yea, Tom Carrol broke his tibia and tore all the tendons in his left leg yesterday at Waiimea warming up for the Eddie, which went off today with BIG clean conditions. TC was actually at the contest doing commentary and showing off his cast.
