[quote="headwax"]Then again, a kneelo shaper has the pleasure of experimenting on a plethora of other kneelos. Trouble is, he's not keeping the most important part of the board - the rider- as a constant.

Now, the Wax..

What would you think that a Kneeboard Shaper would be thinking of when he shaped a kneeboard..a standup surfer?

Signed, Sleepless in Sydney..

PS. Peter Sheely is a hot shaper.

Mr Wax,

You know how to rattle someone's cage don't you?

I'm stoked that David has helped you see things from a different angle..and the guy DOES rip. Too easy.

I reckon that we all should stay inside the loop..keep the kneeboard stoke alive..talk to a guy that surfs the way you do..that way there is a touch more than 'business' entering the equation..

And no, the builders haven't 'eaten' me..yet.

If I told you the amount I have to shape..and the amount that I am shaping..you would think that I'm bloody gloating..cause that's where I've been. In the bay.

The water would be nicer..but life IS like that..when you have Carpenters to pay.

But.. I have my glimpse of Long Reef all to myself (just ask my beautiful wife)..and a heap of kneeboarders to talk to and shape for.

Life right now, is all I could ever ask for.

Regards to kneeboard surfers, everywhere.

It seems to me that if you were to give your favorite kneeboard to a good standup shaper he (or she) should be able to shape a kneeboard based on that model (provided they followed that shape as closely as possible, of course) .

Of course, what you are going to get (hopefully) is an exact replica of that kneeboard. Nothin' more, nothin' less (if you are lucky, that is) .

Only shapers who are truly dialed into the idiosyncrasies and performance characteristics of kneeboards can creatively push the envelope 8) .

Just more evidence of the influence of great kneeboard shapers on great standup surfers.

Post by john - »

How do Headwax?

on the second url pic i can just make out the kneepads and they seem far back like a tri set up - optical illusion on you sit back on this design - under the impression quads were ridden more to the middle/front - my board arrived with that setup

Came across a kneelo today surfing on an Ashley shaped kneeboard. These days Ashley (outa Torquay) does longboards and shortboards but ive heard here and there that in the 70's he made quite a few kneeboards for the locals. The spoons that i saw recently in Torquay were his as well.

The chap on the board said it was the first kneeboard the guy has done in 20-25 years. 510" 23.5 double concave rounded pin thruster . His pads were towards the back of the board. The waves were a bit fat and weak and this guy was hanging out wide so i did not see him in full action but he said the board has been one of the only boards hed ever jumped on and loved immediately and that it performed well in indo.

The board looked great and im assuming the template has come from else where given the style and dimmensions were quite modern. The Kneelo was one happy chap on his predominantly standup shapers kneeboard.

Still if i was gunna shed up to $700 to 800 Oz Id want to know that i was enjoying the fruits of another kneelos experience!

I,ve surfed boards shaped by shapers of regular surf boards for the last 29 years and if you have a good relationship with a good shaper you will get should get an excellent product.

I do think that if you are unable to get across what you want out of a board then you could be in trouble.

One of the worst boards that I have ever ridden actually came from a reputable Kneeboard specialist shaper. It was just a chunk. It probably worked for another person and may have even been a great board...for somebody else but it illustrates a point .

I have always liked boards that are foiled out through the nose and tail with alot of kick in the nose, it has always been easy to get from a top class shaper.

I recently got a custom board from Hawaiian shaper Rex (surfboard shaper) and it is without a doubt the best board I have ridden. I am waiting on the arrival of a new 6' 3". I have no history at all of boards from Rex.

Good shapers are good shapers kneeboard or otherwise. They understand the mechanics of a board better than most and can put that into foam.

This is no disrespect to all the world class kneeboard shapers out there that put the proof in the boards that they shape for all the world class kneelos out there and that are of a standard above my capabilities.

Bottom.. line different strokes for different kneelos
