Kneelo on front page of the LA Times

Post by Tom Linn »

I was stoked this morning when I pulled out my morning paper to see a kneelo on the front page. The Los Angeles Times has one of the largest circulations in the world so a kneelo on the front page is pretty cool.

Maybe someone can post a link to the photo.

Best guess is the photo is of our own Max B during the recent west swell at Seal Beach. Most excellent!!

Hey Tom, that's awesome - why did they have it on the front page?

There was a photo on the front page of the San Diego paper, taken at Swami's... two guys shoulder hopping a third guy. Worst photo they could have picked! I guess the big surf qualified for a front page story, so they went to Swami's, where there was probably 100 guys.

:D

Randy, sometimes the photo editor says they need a feature photo, and assigns a photographer to hunt for anything, and before deadline. Intensity is the name of the game in newspapers, and I would guess the photog didn't have a lot of time to find something. Newspaper photog's are the best in the business, and are always on deadline. Most of the great sports photo's you see in newspapers were shot in the first quarter of say a basketball game... LA Times guys are top notch.
Should have been me shooting that  , maybe in the future.

THAT'S SO COOL!

I remember that wave, Max. Tom and I were watching it on the beach from behind you at the opposite angle. I commented to Mutiny, "a la Wedge," on that flying kick out.

I sat outside trying to catch the cloud break that was just starting to show......Marshmellows. My old spine said NO to the inside situational shore pound. "Death or Glory!"

Kneelo on front page of the LA Times

Alan Schnabel from the Times is a cool guy with an excellent eye for composition. Met him last year when I was finishing a training paddle at sunset. He took an autumn Santa Ana classic shot 'bout 4-5 years ago that also made the Times' front page. With a kneeboarder slotted just right! Well actually going left.
