why are modern Kneeboards so BIG!!Why even kneeboard?

That was fun. I entered the Mr. Hawaii contest and fell off the stage. Got chased out of the water by sharks. Watched Barry get stungby a jellyfish in the face, during a heat. Ate Thanksgiving dinner at a truck stop and most of all drink a crap load of Texas Pride beer. Joey Brazil became Uncle Joey. Took some team photo with an empty 12 pack container as a hat, then meet the girl of my dreams. Thats some things I can mention, there are a bunch I can't. Made it to finals, then bombed. Sound fimilar.

I wonder why some think that bigger is better? (maybe compensating for something

) everyone is entitled to have a different preference, thats why some stand, some kneel, some grab rail, etc. but hopefully all are having FUN. I am 6 ft. 165lbs. I usually ride a 5'9''. but in small weak surf a thick 5'7''. and in large fast barrels I choose to charge on a 6'1''. and by the way they are all twin fins. Hoping everyone out there chooses to use what works best for them even if it's a worn out thong bunched between their cheeks

Ler surprized to think you can even remember some of those trips. glad that you remembered what not to post though

some of those old times are just us growing /changing/ experimenting I remember the ice/ the empty 12ers lots of those. and lots of laughs as well. I have a copy of some texas paper that has a kneelo heat running into the water, flippers flapping and hair blowing in the wind. looks like we were all in a hurry for some reason though thinking back I cant see why we would be running into the surf or what passes for it in texas

that was probably some of the worst contest surf in history. only surf event I was ever at that had a bigger crowd of spectators playing horseshoes on the beach...!!!!! just crazy to think where the ussf politics forced us to have events back then

Barry/Ler: don't forget the food fight at the welcome banquet, the "flying can," having the semi suspended due to lightning, hokey dudes driving pickups on the beach and drinking Bud, the "shrine" we created in homage to _____ (US kneerider who bought his own ads in late 80s) and the JP Luby Municipal Surf Pier. No wonder they didn't want a kneerider on the NSSA National team after that! But I won the contest - so as far as I'm concerned it was a great time. By the end of the week the NSSA rep was coming to the "kneerider room" for beers (and to get away from his wife).

Your right Jack those were some good times. Alot of people came to the kneeboard room for a few beers or alot of beers. All good.

I have 3 boards. What I call my long board is 5'3',then there is my 5'er,and there is the 4'9".My 4'9" is the same shape as my 5'3",just smaller.When I do ride my long board,it feels unresponsive. The short boards are alot more fun to ride.

Never in my wildest dreams would I EVER imagine riding a 6'0" kneeboard..........but here I am.

And am I stoked! Due to medical reasons.....like over 40 years of Duck Feet and sports injuries...my ankles are gone. I acutally quit KBing and sold my last KB 5'8" (man, do I rue that now..great board).

But the new longer KBs allow my to wear much smaller swim fins..or no fins at all.... so I can again KB. I standup surf also but have been a KBer for so long, I really missed it for the 4 years I quit.

But now, with strenghtened ankles and a 6'0" KB, I'm in Surf Heaven. With fins-forward placement, the board turns on a dime thus reducing pressure on my ankles. The added length not only adds paddeling ability but stability and........FUN FUN FUN!

I've been on this shape since this Fall. It needs some tweeking but, all in all, I will ride quads in most conditions. Now, the fun part....
desiging a 6'2" thruster for big frieght train days.

Gawd, its good to be a KBer!
