Brucey has just gotten a bunch of new blanks for "Big Guys"... this looks like one of them. 8)

Kyle is 6'4"... that's a big board working in really good in really soft surf. (I'd swear that's El Porto. :?)
There's a whole US crew ordering "all around" boards that will be each rider's respective height. Gonna be interesting to see the results.

Great stuff.

Thanks Stevea.

Interesting.
People wonder why I ride a 6'2".
Now you know.
It's not the only variable to consider, but it's worth thinking about.

PS you're not going to get results like KB unless you shrink your fin spread the way he does (i.e. have the rear fin really far forward).

If you want to retain drive, then you need to keep a bit of spread in the fins, but of course this will mean that the longer board will not turn on a tickey (a small coin that was worth something when I was growing up), so you have to look at rocker/outline changes or understand that you are not going to flick a longer board around like a swizzle stick.

Yeah Red... I meant to point out KB's fin cluster.

I poached that idea from him (thanks Bruce) 4 years ago for all my small to mid size boards.
I don't know if it's because of my height, or proportions, or style, but it really helps loosen the board up. VERY hard to get wired at first... board will release really easily if you get sloppy... but eventually it becomes really easy to throw a big board around quickly in small/soft/fat surf.

However... This year I rode my 6'5" semi-gun a lot... it has Bruce's traditional fin cluster... and I was stoked to take advantage of the drive in bigger surf.
Switching back and forth if really easy too.

What is your cluster, Red?

I do not think i could get used to a longer board like that , but looks like a great contest board , you guys are going to be floating when others are bogging.

Wouldn't you want to have that performance in your everyday surfing?

Everyone of my boards are made by Bruce except one. The exception was made by Rob Brannan (Beeline), it is shaped solely for his style of surfing and it has the fins closer together as well. It does surf exceptionally well. I think it has to do with being designed for an American style of surfing.

Albert;

Like I said it was designed by Rob, for Rob and no one else. His style is his and he is American. I ride Aussie boards and I know I do not ride them to their potential because of the way I learned to kneeboard in the seventies. Oh well!

I learn more about this everyday with my son kneeboarding. He will not inherit my flaws just my love of the sport.
