Scrimmage
I'll go for the scrimmage. Someone set my alarm (add a hammer to my alarm clock to come down on my head ...) Gotta step up my work out regimen another notch ... 43 days to go ...
I'm in for Tahiti, leaving Friday 6/25 at 1 pm from LAX on Air Tahiti Nui Flight #1, arriving at around 6 pm local. I've got the US Flag ready to pack!

Ler
Ler - yes, anyone is welcome to join us for the scrimmage! Similar to Jalama, you'll likely be surfing and judging some. We may also do some video.

SFkneelo- Yeah it was... I already had the sinus thing, but that crappy surf gave me the ear infection and cost me a week of glassy barrels in SoCal AND the Jalama gathering... I will never surf Pacifica again.
Albert- I wanted to answer your post in Spanish, (since you are surfing for Puerto Rico), but I don't know the spanish translation for "yawn" "you bore me" and "what's the over/under on Albert going down in the first round?"

smack
Great smack. Kenny sent me a copy of the 2002 Worlds highlights - some nice footage of Albert and a whole lotta Aussies. I think EQ got his mug in on a wave or two. Anyone who wants to borrow the video let me know. The waves aren't much to look at but the surfing is solid.
Separate issue: anyone looking into a rental car in Tahiti? Any advice?

Jack - I'll ask my daughter- she went to Tahiti with Pete Mel & family and Quiksilver for a movie shoot a year or so ago. Pete has been there a lot so he may know some tricks.
"The Game" surf contest starts tomorrow in Santa Cruz and - you guessed it - its flat and going flatter. Poor standups - I guess thats what you get for not having a KB division!

rental car
Jack -
Anyone else?
We should probably pool together on a car. I was considering renting a moped or small motorcycle for a day or two to tour the island if no one got a car. I'd like to see more than just papara beach, not that it isn't lovely, too. If you want to go in together on a car, I'll pitch in, help spread out the cost. See if AAA has any deals or contacts, too.Separate issue: anyone looking into a rental car in Tahiti? Any advice?

car rental
ok, so it's a boring day at work ...
The major corps renting cars in Tahiti are Avis and Hertz. Avis had the best deal with a mini compact (tiny) at $790 for 16 days if I'm getting the exchange rate right. A compact would be $443/week or total $1,060 for 16 days. They also had a Premium model car (buick lesabre) for almost the same rate as the compact on Travelocity. That seemed crazy ...
Hertz cost was $378/week for an economy, or $958 for 16 days. Or an intermediate size was $564/week or $1425 for 16 days. Ouch. Mortgage the children ...
Or take your chances booking something from the locals.
