Now just need to sort out the airfare and we're ready to go.
The World Titles KSUSA Team T-shirts are currently being designed and will be available for purchase for those who may want one. For those who don't want one but want to support the USA Team they will be available for purchase and donation to your favorite kneeboarder buddy.
I anticipate being able to ship orders in August, and delivery to Kneelo Cove around 8/22/15 (Saturday).
Just spoke to Brad and Joe, settling in to a rental overlooking the coast in Kiama, have had a few good sessions and looking forward to Sundays Kick-Off
It's Saturday evening in Australia. Team KSUSA is in arriving in Kiama. Joe and Brad set up camp at Surf Beach Caravan Park. John just arrived in Kiama. EQ is living it up with the Farrer clan. Randy is visiting family and friends up the road in Wollongong. Sam is coming in on a last minute flight.
Tomorrow is the opening ceremony for the world titles. Heat assignments will be announced.
There will be live online scoring for anyone who wants to follow the action. Link will be posted.
The last member of Team KSUSA, Sam Coyne, is on his way to Australia. Missing his birthday as he crosses the date line. Flying to Sydney and train ride to Kiama. Get some sleep Sam, you might have to surf as soon as you get here.
The contest is on this morning at Bombo Beach just North of Kiama. Round one of the open was just completed. John Hancock surf the first round and made it through to the second round. Joe, Randy, John, and Jamie will surf in round two this afternoon.
Sam, EQ, and Brad are seeded into round three and likely won't surf today.
Sam just arrived on the train from Sydney, so Team KSUSA is all here.
Spoke to Joe early Monday AM: Sunday afternoon was Opening Ceremonies with blessing from Aboriginal Elders, and special celebration including the New Zealanders and other Pacific Islander competitors. Contest has 3 possible/movable venues expecting basic surf Monday & Tuesday. Basing seeding on prior 2 US Titles results, Sam - Brad - Ed start in the 3rd round. Sam in Heat 3, Brad in Heat 10 with Gavin, and Ed in Heat 11. John finished 2nd in Round 1, (8pm Sun. Cali time)Randy due up in Heat 9 Round 2, followed by Joe in Heat 14 and Dave/Jamie in Heat 16.
Today the first and second rounds of the World Titles were surfed in small, challenging, but contestable conditions. John surfed through the first round but missed the cut in the second round in a close heat. Randy found himself out of position for the sets couldn't quite get the score he needed to advance. Randy and John will move onto the age divisions. I pulled out an uncharacteristic first in my heat. Jamie and Dave surfed the last heat of the day. Jamie pulled off the score he needed for second in the last seconds of the heat. Dave didn't find the waves he needed in the fading swell and will move on to the age divisions.
Tomorrow morning round three of the open starts. The competitors who made it past the first and second rounds will match up against the top seeded surfers. The competition will be much tougher tomorrow.
Thanks for this update, Joe, and congrats on winning your opening round! Keep the info coming, please. I'm enjoying the compusurf site and being able to see the scorelines for every heat as they are being updated.
